Active listening is an important component to practicing trauma-informed care.

Active listening helps you build trust and rapport and helps to prevent re-traumatization.

Ways to practice active listening skills:

👂 listen without trying to solve the issue

👂 ask if they want a "solution" or just "support" from you

👂 be mindful of your tone and nonverbal responses

👂 be comfortable with silence

👂 give them space to share

👂 listen to understand instead of listening to respond
