October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic Violence (DV) and Interpersonal Violence (IPV) are common, yet, abnormal occurrences in many US households. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence reports that “an average of 24 people per minute are victims of r**e, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States - more than 12 million women and men over the course of a single year.” If you or someone you know is experiencing violence by a partner or family member, call the National Domestic Violence hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or text START to 788 for confidential help and support.

Hopelessness and helplessness are two emotions that often lead people to su***de. When a person has suicidal thoughts, they need support and empathy, not judgement. In the United States, su***de is the second leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 10-34 and the fourth leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 35 and 44. Last weekend, 9/6/25, I was incredibly honored and blessed to be a part of the Women’s Fellowship at New Life Interfaith Christian Church in Brunswick GA. Thank you Pastor Janel K. Holland and NLICC members for welcoming me. It was an amazing experience seeing God at work bringing hope and healing to his daughters.

What an awesome time I had on Saturday reading to children, meeting some incredibly talented authors, and supporting childhood literacy. Many thanks to Charmaine Richardson and LaQuinta Bernae Morgan for the invitation and for allowing me and my fellow authors to share our stories. You are doing amazing work for children and the community in Brunswick. Children left the event with free books and parents left with helpful resources. Your work is truly uplifting and empowering.
