SIMPLE JOYS :: Dr. Ashley Weintraub :: Clinical Psychologist
Ashley Weintraub, PhD, focuses on the importance of savoring simple joys and noticing small, everyday pleasures. Dr. Weintraub encourages people to identify at least three things that bring them joy each day, whether it's the taste of a good cup of coffee, the shape of clouds, or a child's laughter. She suggests that by regularly taking the time to appreciate these small moments, we can train our brains to perceive the world as full of "beautiful, magical, mysterious things that we feel good from." Dr. Weintraub emphasizes that these simple joys are readily available, like "a flower or a bird or the clouds or a good cookie." 🍪

"Tech companies know that if they can keep a user scrolling, swiping, and doom-scrolling just a little longer, they can sell more ads and harvest more data. Social media, YouTube rabbit holes, and notifications, the goal of all of these systems are to hijack your brain’s reward system and feed you tiny dopamine crumbs for as long as possible. For neurotypical people, it’s tough enough to resist. For those of us with ADHD brains wired for novelty and stimulation, this constant barrage doesn’t just make it hard to focus, but also chips away at your energy, productivity, and even your sense of control." - Colleen Carty, MSW, ACSW :: Neurodivergent Affirming Coach

Frontiers in Psychology publishes 'Examining the mental health symptoms of neurodivergent individuals across demographic and identity factors: a quantitative analysis', by Elizabeth Kroll, Megan Lederman, Jonathan Kohlmeier, Jaime Ballard, Izabella Zant, and Caroline Fenkel
Reposted Report Background: New research indicates that neurodivergent individuals experience unique intersections of identities at a much higher rate than historical research suggested. Factors such as race, gender, and sexuality interact with neurodivergent identities to influence their lived experiences and healthcare needs. While intersectionality has gained traction in research, the intersection of neurodivergence with other marginalized identities remains underexplored.

OCD AWARENESS MONTH :: OCTOBER 2025 :: "If a loved one shares their experience with OCD, be mindful of your responses. If someone is disclosing their OCD diagnosis, it often stems from a desire to connect and feel accepted. Misdiagnoses often delay access to affirming care, however responding with empathy and validation to your loved ones’ lived experiences can be extremely powerful and healing." -Dr. Sarah Schall, PsyD
