I hope even if your Christmas looked different this year that you still were able to find some joy in the day ♥️ Just a reminder that just because a new year is coming, does not mean that you need to automatically start thinking of how you can change your body in 2022. I know the days between Christmas and New Year’s can be weird and we have extra time to nitpick our bodies and all of the choices we have made over the holiday season. But please realize that the new year’s resolutions can be focused on adding things to your life to help you become a better person. Restrictive diets that take so much away from you are not the answer to becoming your best self. In fact, quite the opposite! What are your non-diet goals for 2022?

It doesn’t matter which holiday it is, infertility can make any day hard. And as we start to be able to see more friends and family the questions that we dread like “oh when are you having kids?” can be tough to deal with in the moment and tough to process afterwards. I see you and want you to know that you are not alone.

The number one thing that has helped me navigate infertility, pregnancy, and motherhood is hearing others’ stories that are similar to mine. All of these stages can be so isolating at times and sometimes you feel like you’re the only one dealing with to yet another BFN or a breastfeeding struggle. While all of these topics are becoming less taboo to talk about I wish it was even more common to talk about our struggles rather than highlight only those blissful moments. If you are going through, I encourage you to share your story because chances are your story could be the exact thing someone could be needing to hear and could make them feel less alone and could change their day.

…and stress can contribute to symptoms that affect fertility. This is where intuitive eating comes in. Ditching strict food rules and diets gives you so much more freedom around food and in return decreases that stress. Trying to achieve the perfect fertility diet or micromanaging every bite will do more harm than good. I know there are so many restrictive fertility-boosting diets out there but the best fertility nutrition advice is to focus on adding more than taking away. There are certainly foods that you can incorporate into what you eat to nourish your body and balance your hormones and blood sugar to boost fertility. And that’s where I come in! DM me for details.

Regardless of whether you are TTC, pregnant, or postpartum, your weight does not define you! Focusing on a number gives us some sense of control when so much is out of our control in these vulnerable stages. Unfortunately there is a lot of focus in the medical field on achieving a specific weight goals in the pre- and post-natal world. During pregnancy, harping on gaining that ~perfect~ number on the scale steals the joy from a time when your body should be nothing but celebrated. It doesn’t help that at every appointment you have to step on to a scale! And for my women out there trying to conceive, following that restrictive diet to lose weight will only cause harm in the long run. If you are someone who is trying to gain weight in order to get your period back, that is a different story but you still don’t have to focus on a specific number. Fueling your body with nourishing food and easing up on exercise is the best you thing you can do. So regardless of which stage you are in, please don’t weight yourself. And if you are especially fed up with it, get rid of that scale! 👏🏻

If I could give one piece of advice to women who are planning to start trying to cocenceive or are currently doing so is to really take a look at your relationship with exercise. There is a lot of advice about getting as healthy as you can prior to trying to have a baby and that typically translates to eat “clean” and exercise every day. Fertility “diets” are whole other topic but exercise is really important to explore as well because it impacts not only your fertility but your experience with pregnancy and postpartum in a big way. Exercise or movement can actually hinder your periods- if you’re currently not having a period, exercise is the the first thing I recommend be significantly reduced or even eliminated. That does not mean that it is forever. But I truly believe that in order to physically and mentally prepare you’re body and mind for pregnancy, you need to start at ground zero. Assessing your relationship is essential. Many of the women I have worked with who are struggling to conceive actually are over-exercising. This doesn’t necessarily mean running a marathon or lifting large amounts of weight. Even your usual 45 minutes, 3-4 days per week can be too much on your body to allow for a normal period. So my biggest suggestion when I identify that exercise could be an issue is to work with the client to figure out how we can work with their movement routine to improve their fertility. Also, pregnancy and motherhood signicantly impact any exercise routine we have. Learning how to modify that routine and be okay with not getting in your usual exercise is mentally essential because as all of us moms know, the days of running off to the gym for two hours are on hold. From personal experience and from working with clients, i have learned that when it comes to fertility, exercise can actually harm us more than it helps us. If you are trying to conceive- have to assessed your exercise routine and your relationship with it? If you are a mom-to-be or a mama already, how has your relationship with exercise changed?

This one is for all my GDM mamas-to-be ♥️Prior to starting Bloom, I worked for years with women with high risk pregnancies and I became an expert in diabetes during pregnancy, especially gestational diabetes (GDM for short). There is a lot of fear and anxiety around a GDM diagnosis and the most common comments I would hear from these women were blaming themselves for not gaining “x” amount of weight or eating too much “x” earlier in their pregnancy. But I can safely say that GDM does not have a poster child- I have seen a huge range of women that have GDM. That’s because it is not caused by anything you did or didn’t do. I do feel that managing blood sugars well doing pregnancy is important to ensure best outcomes for mama and baby but I also feel that there is room to navigate doing so more intuitively, not with strict diets. It’s time to flip the script on GDM. If you or a mama-to-be that you know has been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, DM me!

our most special valentine’s day yet ❤️ so grateful to have a kitchen that I can ball out in and a husband who supports all of my cooking endeavors 😘 last night I made red wine-braised short ribs with parmesan polenta, haricot verts with shallots, and profiteroles (pastry puffs filled with ice cream and topped with chocolate sauce 🤤). Happy Friday! My mom and cousin are coming into town this weekend and I’m soooo excited 🤗 @ Royal Oak, Michigan

When it’s a balmy 5°F outside, you eat warm carbs and soup 🥶👌
Made our first batch of focaccia in the new house with the addition of some rosemary ( ) and a new recipe for winter minestrone a la my ride or die homegirl Ina Garten that was trés lit 🔥 I will absolutely be making that recipe again! Hope everyone survived (and thrived) in the snow this weekend! ❄️ @ Royal Oak, Michigan
