Now that we know that consuming alcohol contributes to seven types of cancers, as in the 2025 surgeon generals warning https://www.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/oash-alcohol-cancer-risk.pdf, we've got to stop putting this flammable liquid you can run your car on in our mouths. We also know it causes stroke, high blood pressure, and atrial fibrillation ('Holiday heart syndrome'). So why not socialize with a virgin mojito and virgin margarita, still laugh with friends, and plan for many years of good health ahead. -Mohit Bhasin MD, Innovation Cardiology

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Effective February 12th, Innovation Cardiology has temporarily relocated to CHKD's Main Campus at 601 Children's Lane on the ground floor. All patient visits will be at this location.

Dear Patients,

An unexpected major water leak has resulted in the evacuation and permanent closure of our office building. We are temporarily relocating our practice to the ground floor of CHKD Children’s Hospital on the same campus, about 300 yards across the lawn from our now closed office. The new address is 601 Childrens Lane, Norfolk, VA 23507.

Parking will be available in the parking garage across from the main entrance of CHKD. Please utilize parking deck A visitor lot. Your parking passes will be validated upon leaving our office. You may also park in the prior lot you utilized.

After entering through the Children’s hospital’s main entrance, you will sign in at the front security desk, be given a mask, and will then be directed to walk down the hall to the left of the elevator. As you pass Starbucks, take a left through the double doors and you'll find our temporary office at the end of hall on the left, past occupational health. To help you find our new location easily, there will be signage posted in the hospital.

This relocation is temporary; we will notify you as soon as we find a permanent office location in Norfolk.

We would like to express our gratitude for your understanding and patience during this challenging time for our practice. Our small team at Innovation Cardiology remains steadfast in our commitment to delivering exceptional care for our nearly 2000 patients. We are diligently working to minimize clinical disruptions to our practice. We look forward to seeing you in our temporary office location.

Warm Regards,

Your Innovation Cardiology Team

Heart Healthy living means much more than medications. It means prevention. Every few years scholars and cardiologists get together to review the science and put out detailed guidelines for what you can do to live a long, healthy life . Our goal is to help you. Please read the attached AHA 2021 Guidelines on our practice website under Education here https://mohitbhasin.md/education/ and try to incorporate as many of the recommendations into your life as possible. Some may be obvious - like eating lots of fruits and vegetables. Others may be a surprise, like avoiding alcohol. Years ago when I was first training as a doctor, we were told to tell patients who don't drink red wine to actually start: That's no longer true. Alcohol is a poison to the heart, can cause atrial fibrillation, strokes, and high blood pressure. As a cardiologist, I gave it completely up and do not miss it. I have a margarita without Tequilla (no salt either!) and can't even tell the difference. Please read the AHA document on our website here at www.mohitbhasin.md under Education and this year try to incorporate as many of these recommendations into your life.

Anomalous right coronary artery (RCA) coming off the left coronary cusp with an anterior takeoff in a 49 year old male presenting with atypical chest pain.

The presence of an anomalous coronary artery is low with an incidence of approximately 0.64% of births. The most common anomaly is the left circumflex from the right sinus of Valsalva, followed by a single coronary artery from the left sinus of Valsalva, both coronary arteries from the right sinus of Valsalva, and the LAD from the right sinus of Valsalva. The prevalence of either the RCA arising from the left sinus of Valsalva or the left main coronary artery arising from the right sinus of Valsalva is between 0.1% and 0.3%. The prevalence of the RCA arising from the left sinus of Valsalva is greater than the left coronary artery from the right sinus of Valsalva (0.17% versus 0.047%).

The clinical presentation of a patient with anomalous coronary anatomy may be anginal chest pain, or syncope, especially with exercise. Unfortunately, the first clinical symptom may be sudden cardiac death.

Many patients after catching COVID-19 are presenting with continued symptoms months after the acute illness, with symptoms ranging from shortness of breath, chest pain, rapidly fluctuating or irregular heart beating, dizziness and light headedness, as well as near-fainting spells. Many patients who experience these symptoms have no prior cardiac history, while others will suffer exacerbations of chronic cardiac issues (coronary disease, arrhythmias, congestive heart failure, etc). Doctors around the world are only now starting to understand the long-term effects.

Anyone who is experiencing these lingering symptoms should consider undergoing further evaluation to rule out any significant underlying cardiac issues given the known potential heart-related complications from COVID-19. Innovation Cardiology is now opening a specialized Post-COVID-19 Clinic to evaluate anyone with concerning lingering cardiac or chest symptoms. In addition to a physical and EKG, some patients may warrant echocardiography or a rhythm monitor, which is conducted in office. Additionally, we have the expertise for other patients to utilize advanced heart and chest imaging (cardiac CT and MRI) if necessary.

Please reach out to us if we can help you.
