How to Find Lung 1 (LU-1 — Zhongfu “Central Treasury”)
Location (Human Anatomy)
Lung 1 is located on the upper chest, just below the outer end of the collarbone (clavicle).
Here’s how to locate it:
1. Place your fingers on the clavicle and trace outward toward the shoulder.
2. When you reach the end of the clavicle, drop your fingers just below it into the soft space of the chest.
3. LU-1 sits in the first intercostal space (the space between ribs 1 and 2), about 6 cun lateral from the midline —
but practically, think:
• Diagonally down from the outer clavicle
• On the front chest wall, not on the side
• In the “hollow” under the clavicle
If you gently press there, it often feels like:
• a tender point, or
• an area that feels hollow or emotionally responsive
Animal (Horse / Dog / Cat) Generalized Location
The anatomical structures differ, but the energetic location is parallel:
• Just behind the shoulder
• In the upper chest “pocket” beneath the front of the scapula
• Where the chest expands during a deep inhale
This area is very receptive to light touch, oils, and energetic work.
Meaning + Purpose of Lung 1 in Grief Work
Lung 1 is the primary point for:
• Releasing grief
• Softening emotional contraction in the chest
• Inviting breath back into the body
• Processing loss, separation, heartbreak, or emotional heaviness
Emotional Effects of Working LU-1
Many people and animals experience:
• A deep exhale or sigh
• Slight tears or emotional release
• A sense of softening in the chest
• More clarity about what they’re grieving
• A gentle lifting of heaviness
• A return to presence and breath
