But did you?

Your story stays with them.

Your story stays with them.

“I cried when I found your daughter lying in a ditch, high on m**h - But you didn't know

I was devastated when I found the 32 year old veteran dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound - But you didn't know

I missed my kids birthdays, school plays and family trips because I had to work - But you didn't know

I had nightmares about the 2 year old I found crushed under a truck tire while mom was inside buying dope - But you didn't know

I really struggled with EVERY death notification I made to a family about their loved one - But you didn't know

I was never comfortable at social gatherings because with the things I've seen, I can't trust anyone - But you didn't know

I've seen things you could never even imagine - But you didn't know

My job was hard on my family - But you didn't know

I had problems, just like everyone else - But you didn't know

The next time you see any first responder, remember that they are people first and there is no training in the world that prepares them for the things they see and do on a daily basis.”

The RFAAA takes breakfast to all the OKCFD stations on Christmas Day. I delivered to Stations 13 and 29. The sign at 29’s said they are “open”. Are they ever closed? 😂

OFFICER-INVOLVED COLLISION UPDATE

NPD Sgt. Justin Hackbarth was critically injured Thursday after being struck by a vehicle while working a prior incident on State Highway 9.

He remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition following an initial surgery today.

“Justin is a valued member of our department known for his selfless commitment to public service,” said Norman Chief of Police Kevin Foster. “We ask the community to keep Justin, his family, the medical professionals caring for him, and our entire team in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Collision Reconstruction Team is actively investigating the collision. NPD is grateful for the swift response and continued support of our local, county, and state partner agencies.

Depends on how you look at it.

Be kind to your first responders.

Sometimes the happiest time of the year carries some of the heaviest calls they’ve ever faced.

While families gather around tables, they may be kneeling beside someone’s worst moment.

While Christmas lights twinkle in windows, they may be holding the hand of someone who will never make it home.

While holiday music fills the stores, their radios may crackle with yet another emergency that cannot wait.

Remember: the uniform doesn’t make them immune to heartbreak.

The badge doesn’t erase the images they can’t unsee.

And the holiday season doesn’t pause the pain they witness.

So offer grace.
Offer patience.
Offer a smile, a thank-you, a moment of gentleness.
You never know what call they just came from— or what call they’re heading into next.

And if one of those first responders is yours?
Wrap them in love when they walk through the door.
Be their soft place to land.
Their reminder that good still exists.
Their reason to breathe a little deeper.
