OH NO! What do I do?!?!? 😲😬
Accidents happen folks and in a case like this one it is good to know who your going to call to get the most efficient care possible. This situation my friends is in your dentist’s wheel house - or at least it should be! Although these facial abrasions look pretty gnarly, our fist order of business when this gal arrived was to quickly assess the satus of the teeth. If a tooth had been lost or pushed out of place it would be critical to get the tooth back in position and splinted in a very timely manner (2 hours is all we’re working it!) Remember your teeth are living structures and cannot be separated from your body for long if we want them to have any chance of remaining. Luckily for this little lady all teeth were good and we only had some minimal, all be it impressive tissue damage. Once anesthesia kicked in this kiddo was comfortable and a couple of stiches helped expidite the healing process. Swelling and bruising in a situation like this is totally expected and anticipated, but kiddos bounce back quick! Couple of key notes for parents:
1. If a tooth comes out rinse it with milk if you have it, or cool tap water and do your best to hold it by the crown of the tooth as the attachement cells live on the root.
2. Place it back into the socket and immediately get to the DENTIST!!!! If you don’t feel comfortable replacing it just place it in some milk🥛 and get to the dentist ASAP.
3. DO NOT PUT A BABYTOOTH BACK IN! It will do much more damage to the permanent tooth.
4. These tramas often times may not seem to damage the tooth at first but years later could cause the tooth the flare up or discolor. If and when this hppens your dentist will be there to help streamline options.
5. Do yourself a favor and call your dentist first🦷. It could save you a lot of time and money avoiding the ER.🚑
It’s safe to say those large swing pads aren’t as cool as they seem!
