“It felt unusual, in a good way, to celebrate my 100th birthday with friends and neighbors around me," shares Lydia. "I’m a quiet person, but I’ve made many friends at Atria Golden Creek.”

With this major milestone under her belt, she is more than qualified to give younger generations a piece of advice. "Stay active, stay away from drugs and alcohol, and love something – nature, music, anything. Just love something.”

Speaking of staying active and loving nature, you can find Lydia out and about daily, enjoying the grounds of Golden Creek. “My favorite thing about living here is the walking program. We are lucky to be between two lakes, with a creek walk right next to our building. We go to the lakes and watch the birds, ducks and geese – and that makes me very happy.”

Join us in wishing Lydia a happy birthday!

Meet one of Atria's resident ambassadors, Arlette!

Before moving to Atria Cary, Arlette had never picked up a paintbrush. Thanks to the guidance of one of her fellow residents who leads painting classes twice a week, she discovered a passion for art she never knew she had.

Known throughout the community for her signature purple hair, Arlette is a familiar face at Cary activities and events. As an ambassador, she is always eager to welcome and connect with new residents.

Our Memory Care neighborhoods were filled with inviting aromas as our chefs hosted multisensory cooking demonstrations. Residents followed along as our chefs prepared homemade granola and served yogurt parfaits. It was a delight for the senses and a true pleasure to experience.

When Missy started helping her grandfather in his search for an assisted living community, she knew that Atria would be the right choice for him. And she has pretty good intel, given that she's the Engage Life Director at Atria Park of Ann Arbor.

"One thing that really stood out to me on my first tour were how many people were out-and-about," her grandfather Gary shares. "At some of the other places we toured, it was hard to find anyone out of their rooms to talk with. At Atria, it seemed like there was always someone to talk to. That is one of my favorite parts about living here! That and the food. I've been here for a couple of months now, and the food has always been very good."

In addition to the food and the people, Gary also mentions how much he enjoys attending activities. Recently, he decided to become an Ambassador to help new residents acclimate and feel welcomed. When talking about activities, he says, "This is not a senior home, it's an activity home – There are things going on all the time."

Missy shares what a wonderful experience it has been to see her grandfather every day. "It just makes me smile every time I walk into the dining room and see him socializing with people – some that he hadn't even met before! He is so social and loves meeting new people. It makes my heart so happy to see him being the grandpa I grew up with and love."

What a beautiful family connection!

Yo, Adrian!

Inspired by the City of Brotherly Love, our Taste Philadelphia event featured local favorites like pretzel bites with mustard, Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, crab fries, onion rings and tomato cucumber salad. And to top it all off, we enjoyed a Philadelphia fluff cake and a screening of a cinematic classic, Rocky!

This year, our Taste events are taking us on a tour of the U.S. and Canada. We can't wait to see – and taste – the cuisine from our destination next month!

“It’s my purpose,” Dara explains about her work as Engage Life Director at Atria Grapevine. “I feel like I’m fulfilling my calling. I’ve been taught to have a servant’s heart my whole life. My grandmother volunteered at Baylor Hospital and her church for decades. She taught me that in everything you do, you should give with purpose and live with purpose.”

Dara has worked in the community for more than six years, but her connection goes back much further. The grandmother she mentions was one of the very first residents to call Atria Grapevine home, and the years Dara spent visiting, sharing meals and joining activities, left a lasting impression. Today, she leads the very programs she once enjoyed alongside her family.

With a background in senior fitness, adaptive training and event leadership, Dara brings an energetic, thoughtful approach to Engage Life. From exercise classes (her “jam”) to experiences that help residents discover new interests and new sides of themselves, what matters most to her is the people.

She calls it “living history” – listening to residents’ stories, celebrating their firsts and witnessing what she describes as a “beautiful third act” unfold. Whether it’s a resident discovering a hidden artistic talent or trying sushi for the first time at age 96, Dara finds meaning in helping residents live fully and joyfully.

We’re grateful for team members like Dara, who show up every day excited to make a difference and lead with love.

There’s no mistaking Yeda’s creativity when you step into her apartment at Atria Forest Hills.

The walls feature needlepoint work, family portraits and childhood photos of herself, but the true treasure is a collection of her beautiful and meticulously hand-painted porcelains. And each piece has its own story to tell.

Yeda is a Brazilian artist, and a former educator and fashion designer, who painted porcelains for more than four decades. She painted using Chinese and European techniques from the 15th to the 20th centuries.

When Yeda moved to Forest Hills, she transformed her apartment into her haven with a display of the things that mean the most to her.

“The reason behind these art pieces is passion,” she shares. “These are what I love, and they’re right at my fingertips," she says as she points at one of her favorite pieces, a porcelain she painted for the bridesmaids at her daughter’s wedding.

Thank you, Yeda, for sharing a piece of your world with us.
