Helping Kids Grow & Develop Through Music

Welcome! How? What is Music Therapy? Ms. Sarah jane

Life Rhythm Music Therapy helps kids grow & develop through music. We use evidence-based music interventions to help achieve developmental goals through Music Therapy & Music Lessons. Music Therapy is a health care profession much like speech, physical and occupational therapy. Where other therapies usually address one goal area at a time, Music Therapy can address multiple goals in each evidence-based, therapeutic music intervention, increasing the value of our service. Music Therapists are nationally board-certified, held to strict standards of practice and ethics code, and the profession of Music Therapy is grounded by years of supportive research. During each session, we use music interventions to work on non-musical goals including:
* Improving social skills, communication skills, motor skills
* Increasing cognitive skills, academic skills
* Decreasing negative behaviors, regulating emotions, expressing feelings
* Maintaining and promoting wellness

We are here to help. Take the first step and contact us today. What happens next with Music Therapy? Following a referral and formal assessment, goals and objectives are tailored to each client's needs and determined with existing IEP goals in mind. Sessions involve clinical music interventions used to work towards progress of individualized goals and objectives. Music selections as well as music making experiences are modified for client preferences and needs. Sessions are documented in a treatment plan and delivered in accordance with standards of practice. Data is collected to show results towards each client's goals, and quarterly reports are provided. Check out our YouTube channel for music tools and tips for parents, educators and other music therapists. Thanks for stopping by to say hi!

🎹Some Thursday music for you. Yup, it’s a mellow one but music that inspires me. This is a tune by Sara Bareilles that she wrote for her Broadway show, Waitress. In my bucket list of performers to see live, S.B. is up there! The way she conveys emotion through her songwriting is truly that of an amazing storyteller, and her voice and piano arrangements gets me in all the feel good places. Hope you enjoy and that you’re smiling where you are! Sj 🧜‍♀️❤️🎶

((PS… is it summer yet? 🌴☀️))

Sitting on the island of St. John and inspired. This song resonates with me and cheers to Sara Bareilles for the songwriting. I’ve yet to see the musical but...

Music therapy in action! Helping children being treated for severe burns with music as pain distraction. Brilliant. Nice work UHealth Jackson Children's Care MT-BC’s. Rockin’ it!

In a typical dressing change on the burn unit, the child is surrounded by adults in masks, gloves, hats, and robes. Only mom or dad are there that they recognize. Everybody else looks strange and scary and they crowd around the bed. But there are also two ladies, one of them is singing with a guitar and the other is playing along on a paddle drum. They make it playful, they refocus the child’s attention from the wound to the music and voice. At times the pain will become severe and the child will scream or pull away, but with redirection and changing up the music, the music therapists are able to reengage him, so the nurses can finish their job and change the dressing. Music therapy in burn care is very intense but also very effective!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
