This post might cause a war because I know how some are about their bacon but I have to pick your brains! š§
I will be the first to say I stinking love bacon!!! That is gonna be a challenge to not have it! I donāt care about pork chops, pulled pork, but bacon is such a salty savory for many! Now on to my question?????
Do you think bacon is an unhealthy meat??
I do know some that still go by biblical message in Old Testament not to eat pork because it is unclean!
As I do reading on foods and cancers Iām leaning towards not eating pork because of all the negatives I read! Hereās just some info I found! And this also goes for many of the lunch meats that are bought because of nitrates!!
I try my best to eat clean so I buy a healthier alternative at Samās Club the Members Mark where their lunch meat says no nitrates(pic below) Although is does have sodium phosphate but I feel like this is the lesser of all evils when you need a quick sandwichš¤·š½āāļø
Processed pork (bacon, ham, sausage) is classified as a carcinogen (Group 1) by the WHO, linked to colorectal cancer due to preservatives. Unprocessed pork is red meat, classified as "probably carcinogenic". High consumption of red/processed meat increases cancer risk; moderation and reducing high-temp grilling are recommended.

Processed Meats (High Risk): Bacon, ham, sausage, pepperoni, and hot dogs are processed with salt or chemical additives (like nitrites) to improve flavor or preservation, which can form cancer-causing compounds in the body.
Unprocessed Pork (Lower Risk): Fresh pork (chops, loin) is considered red meat. It is classified as "probably carcinogenic," meaning there is some evidence of a link to cancer, but it is less strong than the evidence for processed meat.
Why Pork is Linked to Cancer:
Nitrates/Nitrites: Curing agents in processed meats can turn into cancer-causing nitrosamines.
Heme Iron: High levels of iron in red meat can damage the lining of the colon.
High-Temperature Cooking: Grilling, smoking, or pan-frying pork at high temperatures creates chemical compounds (heterocyclic amines and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) that are linked to cancer.
Not to mention pork along with sushi are heavy carriers of parasites š¤®
