Optimizing well-being through the practice of yoga, therapeutic methodology created by Stacey Reynolds, and nurturing the Whole Person. Yoga therapy was the essential missing piece and catalyst for healing in body, mind, and spirit for Anna during a time where all conventional methods fell short. After Anna's own life changing experience as a yoga therapy client, she began the journey learning under Stacey Reynolds and immersing herself in training, both yoga teaching, and yoga therapy. Anna works closely alongside Stacey and has a passion to spread what was shared with her through the practice of yoga. Anna saw a need to spread the wide, diverse impact of Stacey Reynolds's work and expertise, and serves to reach those Stacey would not otherwise be able to reach alone.

πŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ How is our breath so powerful in moving through emotions?

✨When we feel joy, our breathing will be regular and deep
✨When we feel anxious or angry, our breathing will be irregular, short, fast, and shallow
✨Changing the rhythm of our breath can signal relaxation, slowing our heart rate and stimulating the vagus nerve, which runs from the brain stem to the abdomen, part of our bodies’ parasympathetic nervous system, responsible for the bodies β€œrest and digest activities.” (In contrast to the sympathetic nervous system, which regulates many of our β€œfight or flight” responses).

✨Next time a strong emotion hits, try playing with the ratio of your inhale and exhale. Start with an inhale to the count of 3 or 4, and a longer, open mouth exhale- to a count of a 5 or a 6. The gift can be found in lengthening the exhales, finding relief or reprieve.

Taking control of our breath helps us to interrupt and redirect the flow of emotions. Without judgement, we can feel the feelings, use our breath to move through, and send the thoughts or emotions on their way. ☁️

Take a deep breath if you haven’t todayπŸ˜‰ and give yourself some grace!

✨THE KOSHAS: Yoga is a comprehensive holistic approach to health, happiness, and wellbeing. Rather than just addressing the body, yoga teaches that there are five layers of self or being, that must be addressed.

πŸ¦΄πŸ«€1. Annamaya Kosha: We begin at the outermost layer, the physical body (organs, bones, muscle tissue, and skin), known as the annamaya kosha in yoga. Anna means β€œfood” or β€œphysical matter” and maya means β€œmade of.” We are the most familiar with our annamaya kosha in the experience of our physical body in yoga. This could be anything from asana- physical yoga practice, to stress or tension landing in our body, or even how our body reacts to different types of food.

πŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ Working with the koshas can allow us to make positive changes in ourselves and in our life. An awareness starting from the outermost layer, helps us to begin the journey to work our way inward.

A light, safe space for your yoga therapy journey to begin. Having a safe space to feel heard and held is a crucial piece of the process.

"Holding Space" is to be physically, mentally, and emotionally present for another. It means donating your ears and heart without wanting anything in return. Couldn't we all use some of that?!

Having "space holders" willing to walk alongside us in our journey without judgement to offer unconditional support, compassion, and hope can pave the way for transformation and healing.

What is the difference between a yoga class and yoga therapy? What about the difference between a yoga teacher and yoga therapist?

While the focus of a yoga teacher is to teach yoga techniques, the focus of a yoga therapist is less about teaching yoga techniques and more about applying specific yoga techniques to help a person reduce symptoms they may be dealing with. A yoga therapist takes a holistic approach that sees the individual as a whole person and focuses on their unique needs or goals- whether those relate to decreasing symptoms of chronic pain, mental health, illness support, healthy aging, improving flexibility, or overall wellbeing.

As both a yoga teacher and yoga therapist, together we can work towards your goals through a therapeutic application, and/or growing any aspect of your yoga practice. Email anna@blueyoganyla.com for an information packet.

Mental Health, Caring for the Whole Person

According to yoga philosophy, mind and body are part of an integrated system; they’re not separate. This means we can work on the mind through targeted practices in the body, and vice versa. Yoga therapy can promote general emotional balance and assist with mood regulation. Research into effects on specific concerns is promising, and yoga has been used as an adjunctive therapy for anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, insomnia, and more. yogatherapy.health

Many of us have an overactive mind that wears on our nervous system and plays out through our emotions. Yoga helps "close down the tabs" in our minds and soothe our nervous system, allowing us to recover from the effects of stress and fatigue on our body.

What if the flexibility you think of when a yoga practice comes to mind was less about flexibility on a yoga mat, and more about flexibility in your life?

In much of conventional medicine, patients can be passive recipients of care. In yoga, it’s what we do for ourselves that creates awareness for change. Yoga gives us tools to help promote change. We get involved in our own care, we discover that our involvement gives us the power to effect change, and seeing that we can effect change gives us hope. And hope itself can be healing.

It takes strength to meet ourselves where we are, face our thoughts and mind, and begin a journey self-inquiry. What if that strength working through discomfort on a yoga mat, translates to the strength to come out on the other side of discomfort in your life?

✨What is Yoga Therapy?

Although all yoga is potentially therapeutic and healing, yoga therapy is the specific application of yogic tools to address an individual’s physical, mental, and emotional needs. The yogic model of health is unique because it addresses every aspect of life rather than considering each body part or system separately. Yoga therapy works with one's own capacity to optimize well-being while being tailored to the individual.

Yoga is more than the poses one may see, and the physical practice is but one small piece. Yoga therapy works to unify the body, mind, and spirit while addressing one's discomfort or "dis-ease". The yoga therapy process takes a holistic approach that sees the individual as a whole person working with their unique story. The impact of the work can reach far beyond a yoga mat. It can be used as a vehicle to rewire the way we show up for ourselves, the people around us, and to life.

βœ¨β€œStacey and Blue Yoga Nyla didn’t just teach me yoga postures- they showed me what a nourishing, life-giving, safe haven could feel like. They taught me love, compassion, resilience, flexibility (more importantly, off the mat) and the overarching truth that we are never alone. It is so special to be able to share the same work that began and transformed my own healing journey. I felt not only a profound gratitude for the work, but a newfound responsibility to share it. I am extremely honored and grateful Stacey has allowed me the opportunity to pass on a small portion of "The Gift" that was given to me."
-Anna Koehler, Yoga Therapist

It is with great pleasure, Stacey Reynolds announces that Anna Koehler will be offering The Gift. Becoming the first yoga therapist, in training with permission to offer this exclusive program. The process and methodology created and written by Stacey Reynolds, The Gift, is a journey of exploration through the subtle body. This process is a systematic approach to healing; weaving the ancient tradition of body, mind, and spirit with modern therapies.
