Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk

Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk VNSHS provides quality home health care and hospice care in Suffolk County.

For 70 years, Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk (VNSHS) has been providing health care of the highest quality to patients regardless of race, religion, age, s*x, or ability to pay. With a tradition of professional, charitable, and compassionate care, our skilled home nursing and hospice services, inpatient Hospice House, home health aides, and community programs such as flu shot and blood pressure clinics and bereavement groups serve residents throughout Suffolk County. We provide post-acute care for patients in their homes, which may include assisted living facilities and inpatient care in our Hospice House. As an independent, not-for-profit healthcare agency rooted in the community, VNSHS understands the needs of the community. Incorporated in 1952, VNSHS is the first visiting nurse agency in Suffolk County and, in 2004, founded Hospice House, the first freestanding inpatient hospice in New York State. Hospice House is an 8-bed inpatient facility designed specifically to meet the needs of patients as they face the end of life and their families.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Michael, Peter, and Gregory of DIX HILLS DINER for their generous donation to Hospice House.

This Thanksgiving they provided a complete holiday meal for the loved ones who are keeping vigil at the bedside of those in our care, offering comfort during a time when many might otherwise miss the warmth of the holiday. We thank you for helping us bring a sense of home, compassion, and community to our hospice families. Your kindness truly makes a difference.

Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk honors Shelia Pariser for her dedicated service to our hospice and the Town of Huntington.

At this month’s Town Board meeting, Councilwoman Theresa Mari and the Town Board were proud to present a proclamation in memory of Sheila Pariser, a resident of Huntington who dedicated more than four decades of her life to serving others with various local organizations. Ms. Pariser was an active member of the Huntington chapter of the American Red Cross and volunteered with the Huntington Freedom Center (now known as Head Start), Huntington Hospital, and the Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice of Suffolk. Perhaps most notably, Ms. Pariser was a longtime member of Soroptimist International of Suffolk County, where she held the positions of President, Vice President, and Director, and earned the Woman of the Year Award for her advocacy on behalf of women and families.

The Town of Huntington is grateful to Ms. Pariser for her exceptional service to the people of Huntington and proud to honor her memory.

Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk (VNSHS) recently visited Brookside Multicare Nursing Center in Smithtown!

We were joined by dedicated social workers and case managers who provide compassionate care to patients at this 353-bed facility. Brookside offers both short- and long-term care, along with specialty units for neuro-psychiatric patients and unique programs for Long Islanders, including the PETAL Program (Long Island’s only pediatric extended and long-term care unit), an Amputee Recovery Program, wound care services, and more.

With a newly renovated gym, daily rehab services, and a team dedicated to treating every patient with dignity and compassion, that staff at Brookside is making a real difference in the lives of their patients each day.

Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk (VNSHS) was proud to join more than 20 community organizations at the Veterans Resource Fair on November 5, hosted by the Northport Public Library. This important event connected veterans and community members with organizations providing vital services and support for those who have served our country.

As we commemorate , we honor the brave men and women who have dedicated their lives to protecting our freedom. At VNSHS, we believe our veterans deserve not only excellent care but also compassion and understanding that reflects their service and sacrifice. We’re proud to offer specialized care for veterans and to partner with community organizations—including Northport VA Medical Center and the Long Island State Veterans Home—to ensure our vets receive the support they deserve.

A heartfelt thank you to Richters Orchard, a Northport favorite for 125 years, for their generous apple donation that helped make the day even sweeter!

The partnership between Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk and the Townwide Fund of Huntington dates back to 1961. Over the years, the Fund has graciously supported our services, enabling us to deliver essential healthcare to the community.

We were truly honored to be among the local non-profits awarded a grant during the Fund’s Annual Harvest Night. Their loyal support will help us to offer acupuncture which brings pain and symptom relief to our hospice patients, completely free of charge.

A heartfelt thank you to the Townwide Fund for their generosity and for fostering collaboration among non-profits, all working towards the greater good of our community.
