Skeletons took over Imaging - what a fright!
Witches brewed potions deep into the night.
Inside-out folks turned heads in the hall,
While Monsters, Inc. magic brightened us all!

Our Pharmacy fluttered with butterflies galore,
And the Lab spiced things up - who could ask for more?
From ghosts to giggles, we had a scream,
Happy Halloween from the Stephens team! 🕸️🦇

Congratulations to Christie, Registered Nurse, ICU, who was the recent recipient of the Good Catch Award here at Stephens.

While performing MaineHealth's PPID Red Rule, Christie noted that the patient's date of birth was incorrect. This was corrected and our PPID process was reviewed to prevent future events for the safety and well-being of our patients.

The Good Catch program recognizes team members who address and report a near-miss event or situation that, if not identified and acted upon, could have resulted in an adverse outcome for our patients.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will face a breast cancer diagnosis in their lifetime.

At MaineHealth, we’re committed to helping you stay ahead with screenings like mammograms, an important act of self-care and the best way to catch breast cancer early, when it’s most treatable.

Most women should begin annual mammograms around age 40, though some may need to start earlier based on risk factors. Talk to your doctor and learn more at mainehealth.org/breastscreening.

What started in summer 2024 as a collaboration between MaineHealth Stephens Hospital and community partners has grown into a thriving support group for new and expecting moms thanks to the dedication of Emily Eastman, HEAL Coordinator, Healthy Oxford Hills/Community Health, and Erin Olmstead, Perinatal Outreach and Education Coordinator.

Over the past year, Bumps & Babies has:

Welcomed 113+ members online
Expanded programming to Lewiston
Begun planning for a future launch in Franklin County

To celebrate the one-year milestone, Emily and Erin hosted a fun-filled event with lunch, crafts, professional photos, raffles, and gifts for families. A heartfelt thank you also goes to our amazing partners: Maine Families, Public Health Nursing, WIC, and Community Concepts, for helping make this success possible.

Next up: Emily, Erin, and the team will present Bumps & Babies at the Nurture ME Summit on October 30, 2025, showcasing how this program is making a difference for families across Maine.
