Dizziness & Balance Support Group of Western New York

Dizziness & Balance Support Group of Western New York Please note: The offline group is not active at this time. This is an online version of the Dizziness & Balance Support Group of Western New York (state).

Our group's intention is to be a venue where people can share information with one another about living and coping with their dizziness & balance related conditions. We also help to increase people's awareness of such conditions. For information on the various disorders [examples: Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), Meniere's disease, Labyrinthitis], we recommend that you check out the Vesibular Disorders Association - www.vestibular.org They have a wealth of information, and much of it is online. We are affiliated with this national organization in that we are part of their Vestibular Support Group Network. Thanks for finding us!

Is there a time of year in which your vertigo/dizziness effects you the most? Maybe having to do with the weather or barometric pressure?

Hi, folks,
By default, all posts made to this page by visitors to the page appear in "Visitors Posts". I wish there was a way to change this without having to start the page as a group, etc. For now I'm copying and pasting posts by visitors to the main page (this page), but there's got to be a better way to manage this. Apparently the first post of a "thread" has to be made by the Admins of the page in order for it to show up on this front page. From there, visitors may comment and the comment(s) will appear beneath the Admins' posts. I hope that made sense!
Maybe we can work around this.... For example, send a message to us, with your post, and I can put your post on this page? It is hard to find the Visitors' posts. This might get to be time consuming for us so if anyone has a better idea, please share!
Thanks.

Try not to be negative. I know it's hard not to be with Meniere's. But seriously being negative can make everything worse.

How is everyone doing? The weather here in western New York state has been kind of crazy recently. One day it's cool and rainy, the next day it's warm and sunny, etc.
Do any of you notice that changes in the weather or barometric pressure have an effect on your dizziness?

This year's "Balance Awareness Week" goes from September 19 - 25.

VeDA pioneered Balance Awareness Week (BAW) in 1997 in order to shine a light on invisible balance disorders. You can get involved by posting on social media, donating to a BAW fundraiser, or starting one of your own with our handy Toolkits. You can also celebrate by downloading your own Fiona Flamingo and decorating yourself, friends, family, pets, home, or office with flamingos! Post your photos on social media using the hashtag and email them to VeDA to be entered into the Fiona Flamingo Photo Contest.

If you have a moment (approx. 10 minutes max) please complete this survey about vestibular disorders and support groups -- online and/or in-person. The survey was created by a 4th year med student & VEDA volunteer, Erik Vanstrum, who has experienced a vestibular disorder himself. He hopes to be an otolaryngologist.

Erik writes: "After learning firsthand how difficult it is to live with vestibular illness, I am excited to use my unique position towards improving treatment and care for those with vestibular disorders. One of the first things I’d like to do is communicate to medical providers just how valuable support groups can be for patients."

Below is a link to the survey. Thank you!
