Phil joined global human rights leaders at the Heising-Simons Foundation’s International Human Rights Day convening earlier this week. More than 300 advocates, organizers, and philanthropic partners came together to lift up stories of courage, movement-building, and community power. Hearing directly from leaders like , President Juan Manuel Santos, , Kica Matos, and was a powerful reminder that defending our shared humanity requires sustained collaboration and bold imagination.

We just got back from a team retreat where we spent quality time together in Santa Barbara, talking about how we can build trust and work better together. We had lots of good food and laughs.

Jess joined funders, builders, and community leaders at the Festival Funder Summit, a day dedicated to unlearning the habits holding our sector back. From data governance and AI hype to narrative power, sustainable funding models, and honest learning, the conversations pushed all of us to imagine what comes next for responsible, justice-centered tech. Grateful to be in community with those shaping a better digital future.

: Power Not Persuasion: The Susan Sandler Legacy was admitted to the Awareness Film Festival where Jessica Salinas and Suzy Gold had the opportunity to see the screening of the powerful story of Susan Sandler, a trailerblazer of social justice. , Susan Sandler’s husband and partner in this work, is on a mission to shift the culture of philanthropy to create lasting social change. Susan’s legacy lives on in the organizations that are continuing to build power for overlooked, oppressed communities.

At , our event, The Funders Shaping Democracy, AI & Media, gathered funders, technologists, and media leaders to explore how we can strengthen democracy in an era of growing fascism.

We shared insights from our Responsible AI funding cycle, mapping where funding is flowing, who’s leading in different sectors, and how innovation is showing up.

The takeaway: strengthening our democracy will require funders bold enough to experiment, collaborate, and imagine new media and tech infrastructure for our collective future.
