Casa Tia Luna is pleased to invite our BIPOC traditional healing community to join Dr. Karen Villanueva at their upcoming talk at Mills College. Dr. Villanueva will share on a range of topics, including their journey in medical studies, becoming and working as a nurse, and her studies at UC Berkeley’s famed Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine College. Dr. Villanueva will discuss links between their journey and the history of Filipino-American diaspora, how the field of nursing plays an important part in the diaspora, and how their collective paths have lead her to ancestral, non-western medicines and healing, and their abiding interest in decolonization, integrative health equity, and healing justice. They will also share about the founding of their community-based wellness center, Kilusan Wellness, that offers culturally-specific care and healing practices from these traditions.
