Measles Exposure Update — Northern Virginia

The Virginia Department of Health is reporting a confirmed case of measles in a Northern Virginia preschool age child who recently traveled internationally. Measles is highly contagious and spreads through coughing, sneezing, or breathing.

If you or your family visited an urgent care, emergency room or hospital recently, please see the following information about specific dates and locations of possible measles exposure:

Most people in Virginia have immunity to measles through vaccination, so the risk to the general public is low. If you have any questions about your child’s risk or believe they may have been exposed, please contact your regular Capital Area Pediatrics provider via portal or phone.

Please welcome Dr. Katherine King to the Capital Area Pediatrics Team!

Dr. Katherine King is board certified in pediatrics and is joining Capital Area Pediatrics in January 2026. Previously she worked as a pediatrician with Kaiser Permanente in Falls Church and with a small practice in Alameda, CA.

Dr. King completed her pediatric residency at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland in 2013. She received her medical degree in 2010 from the University of Virginia, where she also completed her undergraduate studies in Chemistry in 2006.

A native of the Northern Virginia area, Dr. King currently lives in Falls Church with her husband and two young sons. She enjoys finding new parks, playgrounds, and activities to try with her boys and running or baking when she has time.

Dr. King looks forward to meeting families, primarily at the Falls Church location.
