Remember those pesky lameness issues we were talking about? Well, we've got some exciting news!
We've partnered with a lab that's diving deep into the efficacy of treatments for joint, tendon, and ligament-based lameness. They're even offering a brand new product for horses in the treatment group! We're on the hunt for more equine pals to join this important study. Sound interesting? Let me give you the scoop! 🐴📊
Here's the lowdown on who qualifies:
Currently lame and in some level of work.
No injections (like Banamine or vaccines) in the past 7 days before the study starts.
No lameness treatments in the last 30 days.
The trial runs for 180 days, but don't worry, it's not as long as it sounds! You'll come in for appointments on Day 0, Day 14, Day 30, and Day 90.
What to expect:
Day 0: We'll do a lameness exam and ultrasound to make sure your horse fits the bill. Then, we'll flip a coin to see if they're in the experimental group or the control group. You'll also get a FREE CBC blood panel!
Recheck appointments: Just a quick physical and ultrasound.
Day 90: Another FREE CBC blood panel!
Day 180: A simple phone call with the lab to chat about your horse's progress.
So, what's the difference between the groups?
Control Group: Your vet will recommend the usual treatment they'd normally suggest (like Renovo, Alpha-2, or Banamine with shockwave).
Experimental Group: Your horse will receive the new product from the lab! While you'd still pay for the injection procedure, the product itself is FREE! This innovative product is made from proteins taken from foal umbilical cords, backed by years of research on a monitored horse herd. We even have one of our own doctors whose horse is in the experimental trial!
The main goal? To really test the effectiveness of different treatments and get the numbers to prove what works best.
