Endometriosis is when the tissues that line your uterus also exist outside of it. This may occur on your ovaries, fallopian tubes and the tissue lining your pelvis. With endometriosis, displaced endometrial tissue continues to act as it normally would — it thickens, breaks down and bleeds with each menstrual cycle. Because this displaced tissue has no way to exit your body, it becomes trapped. The resulting pain is so physically and emotionally insufferable that it can mercilessly dominate a woman’s life.
THE AVERAGE WOMAN WITH ENDOMETRIOSIS IS TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS OLD BEFORE SHE IS DIAGNOSED
The pain it emits can affect a woman’s career, social life, relationships, sexual activity, sleep, and diet. I have clients who faint due to this unbearable pain.
So what are some signs of endometriosis that you should look out for?
• Painful periods and excessive bloating and bleeding - the most common signs of endo
• Pain during in*******se
• Pain during bowel movements
• Bleeding between menstrual cycles
• Joint pain
• Constipation
• Infertility
Common medical interventions to address endometriosis include medications such as Lupron or surgeries.
Fortunately, there are so many other strategies we can use including addressing inflammation and hormone imbalances, treating estrogen excess and addressing emotional and physical stressors to name a few.
Endometriosis robs so many women of their quality of life and hope for the future but the truth is, it doesn’t have to be that way.
