It’s often a nervous system problem.

When you’re in survival mode, your brain gets loud:
“Charge less so they say yes.”
“Work more so you feel safe.”

Try this before your next big pricing/offer decision:

2) Orient: name 5 things you see (signals safety)
3) Ask: “What price would feel sustainable in my body for 90 days?”

If screens are the “on-ramp”… most kids need an OFF-ramp.

Because the hard part isn’t stopping.
It’s the nervous system crash AFTER.

When a device turns off, their brain loses a big stream of dopamine + focus support.
So the body goes: “Wait, where’s my regulation?”
And you get tears, rage, bargaining, or that zombie stare.

Here’s a calm off-ramp that builds safety (not power struggles):

1) Connect before correct.
Get low. Soft eyes. Gentle voice.
“Hey love… I’m right here.”

2) Make a tiny bridge (2 minutes).
“Tablet parks here. Then we breathe together.”
Predictability = safety.

3) Co-regulate first.
Do 3 slow breaths where they can SEE you exhale.
Your calm is contagious.

4) Offer ONE safe next step.
Two choices max:
“Snack + water or wiggle outside?”
Choice gives the nervous system control.

You’re not “too soft.”
You’re building their capacity to transition.
That’s real resilience.

A lot of “relationship problems” are really activation states on repeat:
Fight (push)
Flight (bolt)
Freeze (shut down)
Fawn (people-please)

And here’s the tender part:
When we don’t feel safe, we protect.
We get loud. Or cold. Or logical. Or gone.
Not because we’re broken… but because our biology is doing its job.

Pause.
