March 6th kicks off Colorectal Awareness Month and National Go-Blue Day! πŸ’™

Colorectal Cancer is currently one of the leading causes of cancer related deaths for Americans under the age of 50, with a projected 159,000 to be diagnosed in 2026. Average risk individuals are encouraged to start screenings for colorectal cancer at age 45, with higher risk individuals starting earlier. If you have any abnormal symptoms or changes you are encouraged to speak with your primary care provider.

We are so grateful for the generosity of the St. Lawrence County Cancer Fund and their unwavering support.

Thanks to their incredible support, we have recently received a Klarity Airflow Oven. This new technology replaces old methods of radiation mask molding, allowing for a faster, cleaner, and more comfortable mask making process for our head and neck cancer patients receiving radiation treatments.

Pictured with our new oven is Mike Henrie, Radiation Therapist.

The OFA Varsity Cheerleaders recently held their 3rd Annual Cheer for a Cure competition, proceeds of which were donated to the Richard E Winter Cancer Treatment Center!
Our director, Jessica, dropped by OFA this afternoon to say thank you and accept their incredibly generous donation! This gift will go directly back to patients of the CTC to help cover things like transportstion to appointments, medication copays, and other non covered essentials to help ease financial burden and offset costs associated with their cancer care. πŸŽ—οΈπŸ“£

Our friend Avery surprised us yesterday with a Valentine's treat! We are so grateful for her and every time she stops by to brighten our day! 🩷

Today I was able to swing by the cancer center to bring some squishy stress fidget valentines to the amazing staff and patients. It was so nice to see so many smiling faces after they received this special treat!

These little squishy stress fidgets may be small, but they can make a big difference, helping patients ease anxiety, stay calm during treatments, and keep hands busy during long or stressful moments. I also wanted to show appreciation to the incredible staff who work so hard every day, giving comfort, care, and kindness when it’s needed most.

A small gesture, but one filled with so much love ❀️

We had such a great time with these kiddos talking about how to stay sun safe!
Tigger was a huge help, and we even put social worker Jenn's skills to the test to see if she could say our 5 "Ss" as fast as possible! 😎🌞🧴

Three great things this week:

⭐ Sophie Nugent stopped by last week with some blankets she handmade for our patients in honor of her family member who received care at our center ... Just in time for the cold snap!

⭐ Trivia night had to be postponed, but our raffle continued and brought in just over $1400.00 for our patients! The lucky winner of a weekend at Mont Tremblant was contacted on Monday afternoon!

⭐ We had the opportunity to help Little Miss NYS in her quest to collect Valentine's for Veterans, and today she came to collect the giant envelope of hand written cards we were able to make gather for her! Thanks for letting us participate and help you this time, kiddo!

As always, we are grateful for our communities unwavering support and all who help make us who we are. πŸŽ—οΈπŸ’œ

Update: Trivia Night will be rescheduled to a later date. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued support.

The raffle will proceed as planned but we are moving the drawing date to January 26th to give more time to enter! Reach out to any of the CTC staff to purchase a ticket and enter your chance for a weekend away!

We will share the new trivia night date as soon as possible, and we will contact the raffle winner directly on Monday!

It is with humble gratitude that we share that we were recently awarded a $10,000.00 grant through the St. Lawrence County Cancer Fund (SLCCF) to support our initiatives in 2026!

This annual grant request was written by our director, Jessica Morley, and approved unanimously by the SLCCF board members to help update and improve radiation services! Money will be put toward purchasing a state of the art radiation mask oven, positioning devices designed for both comfort and precision, and newly engineered adjustable head & neck radiation masks. The remainder of this grant will also be put toward carrying out the SLCCF mission in providing ongoing education and free screenings to those in our community.

The St. Lawrence County Cancer Fund was founded in 1979 by a group of individuals with a mission to help other community members in their battle against cancer. Since that time they have raised money and helped countless people through their various fundraising initiatives such as the Edward I Moses Walk Run for Life held annually in the spring. They have been an ongoing and avid supporter of the Richard E. Winter Cancer Center and Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center & Medical Campus and we are forever grateful for their efforts and generosity.

Our little friend Avery stopped by today, spreading holiday cheer and more goodies for our patients! This time in hand she had 50 activity books - an item commonly sought after and given out to our patients during their treatments!

Thank you, Avery! We always look forward to your visits! πŸŽ„πŸŽ
