While the skies poured outside, Shelly brought the summer vibes to icare pediatrics with a surprise beach-themed day—complete with flamingos, palm trees, and enough cheer to chase away any storm! 🦩🌴🍍

🚨MEASLES OUTBREAK: What do we know
Ingham County has confirmed its first measles case since 1994 - a one-year-old child who recently traveled .Nationally, as of April 10, there have been 712 confirmed measles cases reported in 25 states. Three individuals have died – including two children. 93% of these cases are associated with outbreaks(defined as having three or more cases), including the outbreak in Texas and New Mexico.
Ontario has reported 816 measles cases associated with an outbreak between October 18, 2024 and April 9, 2025. Further, from April 3 to April 9, 155 new cases have been reported with 61 of those cases reported by two of the jurisdictions closest to Michigan: Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (14 cases)
and Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit (47 cases).

If you visited these locations, monitor for symptoms for 21 days:

🌡️ KNOW THE SYMPTOMS:
• High fever (104°F+)
• Cough/runny nose/red eyes
• White mouth spots (Koplik spots)
• Face-to-body rash (appears days later)

TREATMENT:
No specific antiviral treatment exists
Supportive care includes:
Rest and hydration
Fever reducers (acetaminophen/ibuprofen)
Monitoring for complications (pneumonia, encephalitis-brain inflammation)

Vitamin A Supplementation
Recommended by WHO for children with measles:
Reduces severity and complications
Given as one daily dose for 2 days under medical supervision
Important warnings:
Never self-administer Vitamin A
Can be toxic at high doses
Pregnant women should avoid high doses

💉 YOUR PROTECTION PLAN:
✅ MMR vaccine is 97% effective (2 doses)
✅ Special infant dosing available (6-11 months)
✅ Antibody testing if unsure of immunity

⚠️ Parents: Infants vaccinated before 12 months need TWO MORE DOSES after turning 1 for full protection.
