Some are entering the wards, and some are still enjoying their summer break. As a new chartered group, we look forward to showing everyone the importance of health policy, single-payer, and it’s connections to both patient’s health and social issues of our time. We look forward to greeting incoming medical students about this! If you’re already a medical student/health professional student at OU, feel free to reach out to get plug into our listserv & GroupMe. If you’re a fellow ally/community member, feel free to reach out on how we ought to collaborate as we advocate for the right to healthcare in Oklahoma and beyond.

As we wrap up , read on how Single-Payer is an issue:

“Our system of healthcare is fundamentally broken. LGBT people have disproportionately limited access to healthcare; cost, lack of insurance, fear of judgment, and outright discrimination preclude them from receiving care. When other factors like race, socioeconomic status, and social support compound this lack of access, LGBT people have little hope of becoming LGBT patients. Even when they are able to access care, they cannot be guaranteed that their provider will possess the necessary knowledge or training to offer them comprehensive care; as my own experience shows, nor the comfort. We- as healthcare professionals, trainees, friends, and neighbors- are simply not working hard enough for the LGBT community.” - http://student.pnhp.org/342-2/

With Single-Payer, patients will have to freedom to choose their own providers based on their needs, not on what they can afford.
