Hi and Welcome!

Hi! Welcome to my page and the beginning of this journey! My name is Kate Heaton, and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Alabama. I'm also a National Certified Counselor and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. While those sound like a lot of titles and letters, I share that information to let you know that I have a lot of education and training surrounding counseling. I'm passionate about my work and helping people.

Since my teen years, I have been interested in counseling and therapy. All of my jobs and volunteer activities have been centered on working with people, helping with their growth, and my own personal/professional development. My experience is with a varied clientele spanning ages and backgrounds, and I have worked with clients from all walks of life.

My philosophy as a counselor is to be holistic and treat the whole of you, my client, as you are able, capable, and willing. I believe in treating all parts of the self to help you be the best version of you – however you define it. As part of this, I identify and practice as an eclectic counselor. This means I pull from different theories and utilize different techniques in my practice in order to best help you. I am also very strength oriented. I will meet you where you are in your journey and help you move forward from that point. Additionally, as part of this, I want you to be an active part of your therapy to ensure we are tackling what you want and need.

My professional career has provided me the opportunity to help people address a variety of mental health issues and life struggles. Some of these areas include depression, anxiety, substance abuse and addiction issues, working with victims of violence, self-esteem issues, relationships, behavioral problems, life balance, and healthy coping skills.
