Friends of YLF Friends of YLF are supporters of the Youth Leadership Forum put on by the Governor's Committee on Disability issues and Employment.

Friends of YLF support The Youth Leadership forum, an incredible opportunity for Washington State students with disabilities ages 16-21 who want to be or already are leaders in their communities. The forum is put on by the Washington State Governor's Committee on Disability issues and Employment. and is a week long, growth oriented college experience. During the forum students develop and enhance leadership, citizenship, advocacy, and social skills.

The 20th Annual Youth Leadership Forum was held on August 7-12, 2022 at the Dumas Bay Center in Federal Way, WA. Report coming soon!

The YOUTH LEADERSHIP FORUM is BACK!

WHO? Students age 16 years of age -
prior to the start of YLF and und
age of 22.

WHAT? The Washington State Youth Leadership Forum (YLF) is an innovative, intensive, sixday leadership training program for upcoming high school juniors and seniors with disabilities. Delegates are selected from around the state of Washington to
cultivate leadership, and citizenship skills while having fun and making friends.

WHY? It is critical that young people with disabilities growing into adulthood learn to identify themselves with pride as individuals and members of the very accomplished disability community.

COST? The YLF is free to attend. These services are made possible by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, Division of Vocation Rehabilitation.

UW DO-IT ( https://www.washington.edu/doit/ ) is seeking student requests to attend conferences. They will be reviewing applications and providing funding for attendance. Please complete this form ( https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd71bu4IjCqCxsmOGEnGVd6FoVSzfx9YraKTo2SC2YggcKFYg/viewform ) by March 1, 2022 to be considered. You must currently be 18 years old or older to apply.

MWWA 2021 Competition
The Ms. Wheelchair WA (MWWA) Program is currently in search of contestants for Ms. Wheelchair Washington 2021.



MWWA requirements are as follows:
1) To be 21 years of age or older

2) To be a woman

3) To use a wheelchair/scooter 100% of the time in the community

4) To be a resident of Washington state



MWWA empowers women on wheels to be advocates for the disability community.



The competition is to select the woman who is to represent Washington State at the National competition.



MWWA2021 is to take place on October 3, 2021, from 1:30 to 5:30 pm at the Star Center in Tacoma, Washington.

AND THE CENTER FOR NEUROTECHNOLOGY (CNT)
Neuroscience for Neurodiverse Learners
Please share with students you think would be a good fit.

The DO-IT Center and Center for Neurotechnology (CNT) at the University of Washington are recruiting neurodiverse students to engage in the Neuroscience for Neurodiverse Learners (NNL) program through the UW Seattle. Applications for the current 2020-2021 programming are now available. Learn more online.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Identify as a neurodiverse learner (defined as those with academic challenges related to conditions such as dyspraxia, dyslexia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, dyscalculia, autism spectrum disorder, and Tourette syndrome).
Have aptitude and interest in attending college.
Currently be a high school sophomore, junior, or senior.
Commit to program participation.
Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States and its possessions.
Have access to a computer and internet connection to use video conferencing tools.

Participants will receive multiple opportunities to grow in neuroscience and continued education:
An opportunity to learn about cutting-edge neural technologies as well as research and career options.
Access to lectures and hands-on activities focused on neuroscience, neural engineering, neuroethics, communications, laboratory safety and other relevant topics.
Continued support throughout the year and access to mentors and a larger neurodiverse community.
Applications for our program are currently accepted on a rolling basis for both the year-round activities and the summer program. Year-round programming for the 2020-2021 school year will be conducted online. The current dates of the summer program have not been set. Year-round activities are semimonthly. There is no cost to students accepted into this program.
