Those snow days hit hard sometimes.

When outside with your pets don't forget about paw protection. Paw pads CAN and do get frost bitten.

If your pet allows, get booties for their feet while outside. Then take them off when coming back inside for airflow.

Wipe off their paws with a clean towel when coming back inside as ice melt in neighborhoods isn't always pet friendly.

Keep an eye out for cracked, grey, blue and even swollen paw pads that can indicate frostbite is setting in.

Did you know 222 cats in 2023 were confirmed having cases of ? Out of all domestic animals our friendly felines lead the way for the highest cases that year. Coming in 2nd were cattle then dogs in 3rd. The most common way cats picked up the virus were from raccoons and skunks with the highest risk at cat-colony feeding stations.

Rabies vaccine is considered a core . Even indoor cats can catch rabies especially in the event a bat gets inside your house. The only way to test for rabies is a brain biopsy post death and there is no cure for it. This statistic highlights the importance of vaccinating not only indoor cats, but community cats as well.

Remember, scratching is a normal and pleasant part of feline behavior. Scratching releases feel good chemicals and provides cats with other benefits that include scent marking abilities to allow them to recognize their home, where they have been and tells other animals its their personal territory.

If there is destructive scratching going on in the home. The first set of steps to take are getting a cat scratcher that is stable with a large enough base to not be knocked over, horizontal and or vertical (your cat may prefer one more than the other), and place it in an area of the home near where they rest and sleep (not by litter boxes or food), you can also place it by the area destructive scratching is occuring to redirect their behavior (ex: next to the couch). Entice the kitty with catnip or silvervine to explore the new scratcher and make it fun and reward them for using it.
