🎄❤️ We wish you joy, warmth, and good health this holiday season. We’re also incredibly grateful for our members working through the storm to keep our community safe.

As heavy rain continues across the Inland Empire today and into Christmas, here are a few storm safety reminders to help keep you and your family protected:

▪️ Drive cautiously: Slow down, avoid flooded roads
▪️ Plan ahead: Check road conditions before you go
▪️ Avoid impaired driving: Designate a sober driver
▪️ Stay informed: Monitor alerts from National Weather Service

Let’s keep this holiday both festive and safe. Merry Christmas! 🎁

🌧️ A powerful atmospheric river is forecast to hit San Bernardino County tonight, Dec. 23, with the heaviest rain expected Wednesday, Dec. 24 and continued showers through the weekend.

With up to 4” of rain expected in the valleys and even more in the foothills, now is the time to prepare—not after the rain starts.

🔥🏠🧑‍🚒 This footage from a house fire in October shows our Ontario firefighters performing a critical tactic — vertical ventilation. By cutting into the roof, we’re able to release superheated gases, thick smoke, and toxic fumes that collect near the ceiling — improving visibility, reducing the risk of flashover, and giving trapped occupants a better chance of survival. It also slows fire spread in attics and protects structural integrity.

This strategy isn’t random — it’s calculated, coordinated, and timed with interior crews to enhance overall firefighting operations while prioritizing life safety.

👨‍🚒 ❤️ 🕊️ Today marks one year since the passing of our brother, Firefighter Javan Settles—an extraordinary public servant whose life and legacy continue to guide us. Javan’s journey into the fire service began after witnessing the events of 9/11 in New York, a moment that redirected his life toward service, courage, and sacrifice.

From the FDNY Big House at Ladder 134, to a decade with Long Beach Fire, to joining Ontario Fire in 2023, he carried an unmatched pride for the craft and a work ethic that elevated everyone around him. Javan was a devoted father, a loyal friend, and a mentor whose positivity and purpose left a mark on every room he entered.

His love for his two daughters, his family, and his firehouse family was evident in everything he did. As we honor him today, we recommit ourselves to carrying forward his legacy through our actions, our service, and our brotherhood.

We’ve seen firsthand how one reckless decision can change — or end — a life. Don’t drink and drive. It’s not worth jeopardizing your life, your family’s future, your career, or someone else’s safety.

Call a friend. Use a rideshare. Stay where you are. Just don’t get behind the wheel impaired. We want to see you make it home safe — every time.

🎄December is the peak month for holiday injuries — and most are preventable. From falls to fires to fatal crashes, it’s not just the cold that makes this season dangerous.

🚫 𝐓𝐨𝐩 𝟓 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐇𝐚𝐳𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝:
▪️ Falls from ladders — use spotters & stable footing
▪️ Overloaded outlets spark fires — use surge-protected strips
▪️ Cooking fires — never leave a stovetop unattended
▪️ Dry trees ignite fast — water daily
▪️ DUI crashes increase 50% in Dec. — always plan a sober ride

Keep the holiday season bright. Happy holidays! 🤝

🔥 Recovering from a house fire is overwhelming. Here are 5 steps that we often see fire victims overlook, but can make the recovery process smoother:

▪️ Take photos before cleanup
▪️ Ask for multiple fire report copies
▪️ Document all undamaged belongings for smoke/cleaning claims
▪️ Pause utility & service accounts
▪️ Talk to your vet — pets can experience trauma too

Taking these extra steps now can help protect your health, property, and peace of mind later.

This Thanksgiving, we give thanks to the dedicated members of Local 1430 who are on duty this holiday weekend—safeguarding our community while others gather with loved ones. 🙏❤️

As you celebrate, please remember: cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires during the holidays. Never leave a stovetop unattended, keep flammable items away from open flames, and have a fire extinguisher nearby.

From our fire family to yours, we wish you a safe and happy Thanksgiving. 🍂🧯🤝
