🚨Nearly 10 years ago, Dr. Chance Armstrong found himself in the eye of a slow-moving storm that caused more than $10 billion in damage to southern Louisiana.

Now an associate clinical professor of theriogenology at Auburn, Armstrong and a student launched a boat into the storm's floodwaters to locate a group of horses stranded by the storm. What they encountered along the way revealed the ways animal and human health are intertwined during natural disasters.

Armstrong is building Auburn's Veterinary Emergency Response Team (AVERT) into a top-tier emergency response program.
