As we “spring forward” for Daylight Saving Time this Sunday, the one-hour time change can disrupt your body’s natural 24-hour circadian rhythm, which regulates sleep, appetite, mood, and hormone production — potentially impacting your overall health.

To help your body adjust, gradually shift your sleep schedule before the time change and increase your exposure to morning sunlight to reset your internal clock.

If you or a loved one need primary care, call 337-678-4160.

The morning after Elizabeth “Liz” Chatelain, 55, enjoyed her son’s wedding, she recalls being full of joy and happiness. She never imagined the celebration would be followed by a medical emergency. What began as mild abdominal discomfort quickly intensified, turning into alarming pain that made it clear she needed immediate care.

Liz decided to seek help at her hometown hospital in Evangeline Parish. She had lived with a small hernia for over a decade, and it had never caused her trouble. But her medical exam revealed the hernia had suddenly become life threatening. Liz was diagnosed with an incarcerated hernia and urgently needed surgical intervention to restore blood flow to her intestines.

She was transported by ambulance to the main campus at Opelousas General where a team was assembled for an immediate surgical consultation. Liz describes the experience as “seamless”.
“From the moment I arrived in the emergency room, everyone was attentive and compassionate,” Liz shared. “They made me feel very comfortable and very seen. I knew I was in very capable hands.”

General surgeon M. Andrew Sicard, M.D., performed the corrective operation robotically, not long after Liz arrived in Opelousas.
