February is National Cancer Prevention Month - a time to focus on the power of prevention and early detection.

Did you know that many cancers can be prevented or detected early through healthy lifestyle choices and routine screenings? Quitting to***co, maintaining a healthy weight, staying physically active, protecting your skin from the sun, and scheduling regular screenings can all make a lifesaving difference.

This month, take a proactive step for your health. Talk with your provider about which screenings are right for you and encourage your loved ones to do the same. Prevention starts with awareness, and awareness starts with you.

Schedule an appointment today! Call 337-678-4160.

Opelousas General Health System Earns 2025 Bronze Seal of Excellence Award!

Opelousas General Health System’s cancer registry has earned the 2025 Bronze Seal of Excellence Award by LSUHSC School of Public Health Louisiana Tumor Registry (LTR), for achievements in data quality and timeliness.

OGHS partners with LTR to improve cancer outcomes throughout the state. High-quality, timely reporting, and complete cancer data are essential for informing cancer control programs, guiding public health initiatives, and supporting statewide evidence-based decision making. Opelousas General’s dedication to this cause helps ensure that Louisiana’s cancer statistics remain accurate, reliable, and meaningful. The Bronze Seal of Excellence criteria include 2024 diagnosis year data.

“This state recognition reflects the exceptional dedication, accuracy, and professionalism of our Tumor Registry, led by Curtis Vasseur. Their work plays a critical role in advancing cancer care, research, and outcomes for the patients and communities we serve. Behind every data point is a patient, and their meticulous work ensures we continue improving cancer care across our region,” said Lance Armentor, BSM, MHA, President & CEO.

During Black History Month, we honor the strength, resilience, and contributions of Black Americans while also bringing awareness to health conditions that heavily impact the Black community. To***co use remains a leading cause of preventable illness, contributing to higher rates of heart disease, stroke, cancer, and lung disease. Black men in Louisiana smoke at a higher rate than anyone else in the state.

What you can do: It's never too late to quit. If you don't think that you can quit cold turkey, cut back a little at a time. Talk with a healthcare provider about smoking cessation programs, ni****ne replacement options, and prescription therapies that can help.

If you or a loved one need primary care, call 337-678-4285.
