April Fools' Day is the perfect reminder that when it comes to your health, there's nothing funny about putting it off.

March is National Nutrition Month! We're highlighting one small vegetable with a big impact: beets.

Beets are rich in nitrates, which convert to nitric oxide, and may help dilate blood vessels and reduce blood pressure. Their vibrant red color makes them a good source of antioxidants, which may reduce inflammation. They also provide folate for cell health and fiber to support good digestion.

Whether roasted, juiced, or added to a salad, beets are an easy and affordable way to support your overall health.

Dr. Kalyan Veerina was the first CIS physician to use the CrossFAST Integrated Microcatheter Advanced Delivery System at Opelousas General Health System for complex coronary and peripheral interventions.

Developed by Vantis Vascular, CrossFAST is a dual monorail integrated microcatheter delivery system designed for complex coronary and peripheral interventions. CrossFAST provides enhanced pushability, allowing physicians to efficiently navigate and pass through complex, calcified, and tortuous or highly curved blood vessels. The low-profile design features an atraumatic tip with a seamless catheter transition, allowing for a smooth and safe passage through target lesions.

“I feel that CrossFAST has revolutionized the speed, safety, and efficiency of treating highly complex, tortuous, and calcified coronaries like never before,” said Dr. Veerina. “It will help prevent unnecessary complications for patients while also saving hospital cath lab time and resources.”

Coronary procedures focus on restoring blood flow to the heart, while peripheral procedures treat blood vessels outside the heart, improving circulation to the arms, legs, and other vital organs.
