Warriors of the Santa Anas

Warriors of the Santa Anas The Warriors of the Santa Anas are dedicated to maintaining and improving the trails in the Cleveland National Forest.

Our club is based on the American Indian Traditions of the Warrior's Society. The Warrior's Society is made up of wilderness cyclists, trail runners and hikers who have dedicated themselves to improving and protecting the trails of the Trabuco District of the Cleveland National Forest in Orange County California. They must also share our love of the land and the endurance to ride or hike it. Members must be nominated and voted in by existing members. The US Forest Service honored us with the 2002 trail advocate award for region 5, which includes the state California. We are also closely monitoring the push to designate new wilderness areas in California and around our nation. It is our belief that another designation is needed that would protect our forests as well as our freedom to responsibly enjoy them. The Back Country Designation is one proposed alternative. A much smaller group of us pedaled to Beeks Place this morning to “undecorate “ the Christmas Tree.

Beautiful weather and great friends made this a fantastic day.

Unfortunately we missed Chas Beek (owner of cabin) by about 20 minutes. The Beeks family has been so gracious to our club over the years and we love decorating their tree. Prayers go out to their family for the current loss of Chuck Beek.

Single tracks in the way down didn’t disappoint! Although there were some large ruts we were blessed with hero dirt.

Followed by a healthy lunch at Cooks😜

Thanks for everyone’s help today.

We received some sad news today. Chuck Beek has passed away. He was a friend of the Warriors Society who along with his son Chas graciously allowed us to use their cabin “Beeks Place” to stage some of our events.

We recently pedaled up and decorated their Christmas tree which we do every year.

He will truly be missed by our club and all the lives he has touched over the years.

Peace, and smooth sailing.

2024 will be the last year of The Vision Quest, Counting Coup and official trail work activities.

Due to lack of public interest in our trail work and mountain bike events we have decided to turn over trail work responsibilities to OCMBA and wish them the best of luck in attracting support to maintain the trails of the Cleveland National Forest.

To those who have maintained trails with us or participated in our events over the last 28 years, thank you, it's been a good run

Next Saturday, January 6th - Keith Eckstein will be leading another trail work day. Here are the details:

WHAT: Trabuco Canyon Trail brushing
WHEN: Saturday 2024-01-06
WHERE: Main Divide and Long Canyon Road intersection
TIME: 8:00 am

Come on out next Saturday and join up with the Warriors Society to continue the brushing on the Trabuco Canyon Trail. We'll drive up to Munhall Saddle and work down from there. As always, bring long pants and long sleeves, gloves, sturdy shoes and trail snacks and water to keep you on your feet for 5- or 6-hours.

Please RSVP to Keith Eckstein at ecksteinly29@gmail.com so he knows how many tools to bring.

If you can't make this date, show your support by donating to the Warriors Society. We have a “donate” button on our homepage at: www.warriorssociety.org

All funds go directly to offset the cost of our volunteering on the Trabuco District of the Cleveland National Forest.

We thank all those who have supported us over the past 28 years.

Anyone out there who supports the Warriors Society have connections to the food service industry?

We're looking for a new sponsor for lunch after the Pow Wow.

Not necessarily looking for a freebie, but that would be nice.

We have always provided lunch for all our participants as part of the entry fee but it has been difficult financially for the club in the past years to keep this going.

If you know a local company or restaurant that would be interested in providing lunch for free or a small fee please let me know.

Keith " Leads with Quiet Voice" Parsons.

Thanks

Another Annual Warrior Tree Ride in the books. 2023’s Warrior’s Tree Ride was our biggest one yet. 57 riders peddled their way to the top of Blackstar to decorate our alternate Christmas Tree on Beeks Property (with official permission of course). Each rider brought a homemade ornament, some food and drinks to share and enjoyed catching up with old friends and making new ones. Special thanks to the Beeks family for hosting this fun event, and to all those who joined us. Although we are so thankful to have Blackstar as a place to celebrate, we are hopeful to return to the original Christmas Tree on Trabuco Trail someday soon. Happy Holidays All! Here are some photos of this special day.
