Emerging research is taking a closer look at what can linger in the body after viral illness. 🦠

A small pilot postmortem study compared brain tissue from people who died during acute COVID-19 vs. those who recovered and later died 4–13 months afterward—plus uninfected controls. Researchers observed higher levels of certain phosphorylated tau markers in memory-related regions in the recovered group, alongside signals consistent with immune activation/inflammatory cytokines.  

This doesn’t prove cause-and-effect—and the sample size is small—but it adds to the conversation around why brain health and immune health deserve daily attention.
