Hope Chiropractic We are a Christ centered chiropractic clinic using adjustments, nutrition and rehabilitative exercis Those pesky chronic migraines?

Dr. Jenn grew up in Iowa and moved to the Kansas City area for her first job (in accounting!) in 1997 and fell in love with the town. She quickly found herself desiring some sort of career in medicine and originally went back to college to become a medical doctor. The title of medical doctor never quit fit and she hadn't yet found chiropractic, so a degree in chemistry followed. But then her chronic migraines returned and her mother convinced her to try chiropractic. Dr. Jenn loved the "never give up" fighting spirit she saw in this chiropractor and found her place in the health field. She was enrolled in chiropractic college a few months later! They continued all through school, teaching Dr. Jenn invaluable lessons about chronic illness, the discouragement experienced by those patients and how to fight hard for them. Proverbs 13:12 say "Hope deferred makes the heart sick" and Dr. Jenn well learned the truth of that verse. It drove the naming the practice and a passion to renew hope and restore health. One thing you can count on at Hope Chiropractic - we never give up! We fight hard to help you heal, whether that's at Hope Chiropractic or with another provider. Ultimately, we want to see your hope renewed and your health restored.

CPR saves lives!
I’ve heard that phrase much of my adult life. And it’s true. One Friday morning when I was 19, I watched my father collapse in front of me, made a few gasps for breath and was still. While I’d had CPR training years before, none of that came to mind in the moment. Had even one person present that morning known and performed CPR, my dad would have had a better chance at life. Instead, he died. As a result, I have taken CPR training many, many times. I confidently approach the dummy, imagine my father and get to work! Don’t wait for someone else to learn CPR. Learn it yourself. The life you might save could be someone you love very much. And if you need a class, Sean Russell with was amazing!

So cool how the body is so connected!!

Your tongue acts as a rudder and support system through a fascial line that runs right down to your toes!

In nearly all my patients, I see poor tongue posture, and the links to bad spinal posture, breathing, and other issues are felt right throughout the body.

The simplest way we can see how the tongue is so influential is how it supports proper head posture. When the tongue is down and forward, forward head posture and mouthbreathing occurs.

Over time this associates with a narrow jaw, crooked teeth, and sleep disorders.

But… you guessed it, as always the mouth is a gateway for so many other systems in the body.

The tongue is an extremely complex muscular and fascial rudder system.

It guides all the structures of the myofascial continuity that runs from the inner arch of the foot all the way up through the middle of the body to the tongue and jaw muscles.

Isn’t that amazing?

Actually the tongue is potentially more important for core stability than turning on your actual core.

Our core begins deep under the arch with the insertions of the tendons from the lower leg, especially tibialis posterior.

To find its insertion, feel just under the inside arch of the foot, just underneath and forward of protrusion of the navicular bone you can feel a bit over an inch in front of your tibial malleolus on the inside of your ankle.

This point will respond to a soft-but-energy-rich touch that is held, and also to a more firm and direct fascial release. Pressing here can make a flow of feeling run up the fascial line.

So for better core support, spinal, hip and leg strength, you need to work on your tongue posture.

During exercise practice sealing the tongue to the roof of the mouth, this turns on the fascial rudder to the toes. It takes time and you need to work on making the BACK of the tongue connect to the soft palate. More on this to come.

💫 Transformation Tuesday! 💜

One of the most common comments I hear is “doc, I’m an adult. I’m pretty sure my skull doesn’t move.” The truth is cranial bones DO move, even in an adult! The movement is subtle, but movement is movement and changes can be made over time.

One great example of this is the above pictures. Both are me. The picture on the left is from May 2018. I was sick (and getting sicker) with chronic pain and dizziness. Nothing seemed to help much at all and many innocent things made me feel so much worse (sound, light, touch, vibration, etc). Several doctors kept me going through chiropractic school, but by graduation in August 2019, I was facing going on disability and being unable to function really at all. I felt completely hopeless. Then Dr Tobi Jeurink (Jeurink Family Chiropractic and Wellness Center) told me to try SOT (R) methods with Dr Kim Shara (Shara Chiropractic Center). Treatment began September 2019 and slowly, but surely I began to heal.

The second picture is from April 1, 2022. I look and feel like a completely different person.

Healing is possible. The journey may not be linear. It may be messy, hard and sometimes discouraging, but have hope. Healing is possible.
