Trauma with First Responders and Perinatal care are areas of focus in this practice. Hi there and welcome to my introduction section where I’ll discuss my past, present and future journey within the mental health field. First, I started providing case management services roughly 10 years ago at a facility in Tulsa. This led to seeking a master’s degree in counseling through Oklahoma State University. After graduating, I stepped into a different environment that provided ten years of client care, management experience and supervisory opportunities. Let’s skip to the good part! What can I offer you as a client? Well, I have a wealth of approaches that are utilized to give a well-rounded look at therapeutic services. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative therapy, and Solutions Focused therapy are just a few examples of different perspectives on how to treat a person’s needs. A key factor in treating mental health symptoms isn’t necessarily the technique, but more taking into account the whole body system. Appetite, sleep, nutrition and activity levels hold a vital role in our mood and brain’s ability to function properly. If you haven’t read Break The Cycle by Dr. Mariel Buque, you should consider it! She covers inter generational trauma beautifully!

Prevention versus reactionary.

With the holidays coming up, many of us can identify what we struggle with during this time. Take what you know the area of concern is and tackle it with prevention. Is there a way to change that situation? Respond differently? There are usually factors that can be changed around to make a situation more attainable.

Is aunt Linda asking you inappropriate questions at the dinner table?

OR

Too much chaos in a different environment?

Use the buddy system. Have the buddy sit next to Aunt Linda instead of you. Having a buddy can reduce the stressor of being in a new environment.

Think-how can we change the trajectory of the end result!

Morning everyone! We have reached the time of year where holidays are upon us, weather is changing and we are losing sunlight. These are significant changes and can be very impactful. Let’s break this down to make it easier.

How can I make sure to stay true to myself during holidays?
What can I do to be in the sun/nature while I have it available?
How does change affect me?
What are boundaries I need to put in place to make safety a priority?

We don’t have to live the same way as last year, let’s make some changes to make your life easier! ❤️

Insights from the week:
1. Self talk matters. Example could look like this-I’m such an idiot for dropping that plate. I should have never made that mistake. (Pause for a second) Would you model that language as appropriate in front of a child or in front of anyone? Answer is probably no. That means we need some work in this category.
2. Don’t dismiss yourself. EVER. I mean it. Your gut, your intuition, your feelings are ALL telling you something.

What does my body need today?

*Spiritually.
*Socially.
*Physically.
*Nutritionally.
*Mentally.

Do I need to rest or move? Have I fueled my body with nutritional foods that support my needs? Do I need quiet time or do I need to be around others? What am I feeling and how do I show up for myself best?

All great areas and questions to consider when thinking about how to care for yourself. Focus on 1 area first, then gradually move on to others over time.
