This weekend at Ecumen Brooks, we had the joy and privilege of welcoming Amy Aanenson, an author and illustrator, to share her incredible work with us.

Amy brought her original artwork and walked us through her creative process of writing and illustrating books. Her first book, My Wish For You, is a heartfelt story she wrote for her grandchildren. Her second book, A Place For Me, was a collaboration with young student Winston Ekstrand—a beautiful reminder that there’s a special place for everyone in this world.

With vibrant, flowing watercolors and a warm personality that lit up the room, Amy captivated us all. She even designed and self-published her books, making her journey even more inspiring.

Thank you, Amy, for sharing your talent, creativity, and heart with our community—it was truly an honor to have you!

At Ecumen CountrySide, fun has no age limit! Our residents played two hilarious games. ‘I Trust My Resident,’ where partners tried to knock a cup off each other’s heads with a pool noodle, and the ‘Cheeseball Toss,’ complete with shaving-cream shower caps. The laughter was nonstop and the joy was contagious!

Ecumen Brooks & CountrySide celebrated Veterans Day with a day full of patriotic festivities!

The morning began with a delicious hot breakfast for our veterans, generously provided by Hy-Vee. Later in the day, both buildings were filled with the sounds of patriotic music — Melissa Schultz performed at Brooks, while a resident’s family friend and her daughters shared their beautiful voices at CountrySide.

We extend our heartfelt thank you to all past, present, and future Veterans. Your courage, service, and sacrifice are deeply appreciated today and every day.

At Ecumen Brooks, we had a great time doing a painting craft! Everyone got to choose two projects from a selection of gnomes, pumpkins, signs, and jewelry boxes. It was so much fun seeing everyone’s creativity come to life.

Halloween was full of spooktacular fun at Ecumen Brooks & CountrySide!

Both communities joined other area senior living facilities for the annual Trick-or-Treat event, where residents handed out candy to more than 100 kids and enjoyed all the amazing costumes.

At Brooks, a team member created a fabulous balloon arch and festive décor, while at CountrySide, a volunteer brought her adorable bunny—an instant hit with the kids!

Residents and team members also got into the spirit with a lunchtime costume contest, where residents voted for “Best Costume.” It was a day full of smiles, laughter, and Halloween magic!

One of our RAs, Chris, filled our lobby with incredible balloon art that has brought smiles to everyone who walks through our doors. His creativity and talent have added such a joyful touch to our community.

Chris also runs a side business called Hyperventilate, where he creates stunning balloon sculptures for events. He generously offered to design something special just for Ecumen Brooks—and his beautiful donation will brighten our space throughout the fall season. It will also delight all the little trick-or-treaters who visit during our Halloween event on Thursday!

Our Ecumen CountrySide residents got into the fall spirit with a fun and festive craft! 🎃🍁

Using small Jenga blocks, they created adorable scarecrow magnets, adding playful touches like straw hair, flowers, and ribbons. The finished magnets made the perfect fall-themed fridge décor for their apartments — and brought lots of smiles along the way!

As the temperature outside begins to drop, our Ecumen CountrySide residents are keeping warm with Bailey’s and coffee in the morning while sharing plenty of laughter and conversation.

Later in the day, the apple orchard came to Ecumen Brooks! We hosted a special apple tasting featuring five delicious varieties from Fireside Apple Orchard in Northfield. Residents enjoyed sampling the apples along with caramel, cheese, and crackers. It was a fun and flavorful afternoon — and once again, Honeycrisp was the crowd favorite!

At Ecumen Brooks, we had the pleasure of enjoying classical guitar and mandolin music performed by Bruce. He brought along his 6-string and 12-string guitars, as well as two different mandolins. Bruce treated us to a delightful mix of classical pieces and waltzes. It was a joy to tap our feet along to the music!

Yesterday at Ecumen Brooks, we had a great time playing a game called Pick 6! Everyone took turns rolling the dice, trying to flip over all six of their numbers—and when they did, they won a prize!

It was a fun-filled time of laughter, encouragement, and friendly competition. We love seeing our community come together for moments like this!
