Exercise tip: When doing upper back rows, allow movement in the shoulder girdle where the scapula protracts on arm extension, and retracts after the "pull".
As I frequently tell my clients, "don't be overly rigid" with your form. Allow natural movements in the shoulder girdle to promote good mobility.

The Trap-bar deadlift is one of the best functional strength exercises. Nothing is more "functional" than picking up an object from the ground. Muscles in the upper thigh, lower back, and upper back are all engaged to perform this great exercise.

Important cues:
1. Keep the back straight from shoulders to hips from the very first lift. (think: chest up)
2. Keep the head in-line with the back and eyes forward
3. Hinge at the hips to push the buttocks backward
4. Engage the abdominal muscles to support the spine (A belt may also be useful for those with bad backs)
5. Exhale with every lift and avoid breath-holding
