We are excited to shine a spotlight on the amazing work that Brian Davis does! After a long workday, he stopped to assist someone with car trouble. This individual turned out to be a coworker, and he changed their tire. His willingness to show up when it matters most is a strong example of compassion in action.

As Maintenance Director, no two days look the same for Brian! One minute it’s plumbing or HVAC, the next it’s painting, moving, or troubleshooting whatever comes in through work orders, emails, or texts. Along the way, he ensures all buildings meet safety standards across DMH, insurance, and fire codes. He and his team maintain 31 buildings across six counties, often covering multiple sites in a single day. What stands out the most to Brian is the impact of the work, especially when helping IDD clients, who are consistently the most appreciative. Outside of work, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and winding down with documentaries or a good true crime series.

Thank you, Brian!

We are proud to see Communicare’s own Nikki Carter, (LMSW) and Elizabeth Cornelius, (MSW, CMHT) presenting at the NAMI Mississippi “Together Toward Tomorrow” conference on SBIRT. This is the life-changing work they do every day, just on a bigger stage.

What if one conversation could change the trajectory of someone’s life? Nikki Carter, LMSW and Elizabeth Cornelius, MSW, CMHT are showing how small conversations can lead to big change.

SBIRT is an evidence-based, best practice model used to identify and address risky substance use behaviors in both mental health and primary health settings. Validated screening instruments will be discussed and reviewed, along with billing strategies, to ensure the time needed for SBIRT in clinical practice is reimbursed.

That moment. The one where you pour a drink, and just for a second, you hesitate.

April is Alcohol Awareness Month. And that’s what we’re hoping: that we can encourage you to be more aware of your habits and alcohol.

The sober curious movement is in full-force, and it’s worth your time.

We wrote something about it, and we hope it makes you curious. Check out our new blog post: https://www.communicarems.org/post/sober-curious-rethinking-your-relationship-with-alcohol

If that curiosity turns into questions you don’t want to sort through alone, we’re here for that, too.

What if the “fun” part isn’t actually the best part? You know that moment. You’re out with friends, someone orders a round, and you go along with it because… well, that’s just what you do. No big decision, no deep thought. Just part of the social script. But lately, maybe there’s been a...

When a crisis happens, an informed response can change everything. A huge congratulations to these officers who chose to be ready for it and graduated from Crisis Intervention Training on Friday, April 3rd.

Through Crisis Intervention Training, officers partnered with mental healthcare professionals and gained critical skills in de-escalation, mental health awareness, and connecting individuals to the care they need, which helps ensure safer outcomes for everyone involved.
