Our vision is to empower women and families to build nurturing homes for children. Hopeful Beginnings of St Mary’s (St Mary’s Services) is a 501c3 dedicated to maternal mental health, support for local families in need and, adoption support. The agency offers free counseling services for postpartum depression/anxiety, grief and loss of a pregnancy or general adjustment to parenting. Adoption services are also provided for mothers/parents looking to place their child or looking to adopt a baby under the age of 3. Hopeful Beginnings is an ally to the LGBTQ+ community and is proud to offer unbiased support to all families.

Meet Humera Khaleel, MSW, BSW 💙

Humera holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Northeastern Illinois University and a Master of Social Work from Dominican University. She is passionate about supporting adolescents and young adults on their mental health journey.

With a therapeutic approach rooted in CBT, psychotherapy, and psychoeducation, Humera is dedicated to helping individuals build resilience, grow confidently, and prioritize their well-being.

Outside of her work, you’ll find Humera reading, journaling, spending time with cats, and enjoying anime, K-dramas, and C-dramas ✨🐾📚

✨ Meet Michaela Cantu, our newest licensed social worker at Hopeful Beginnings! ✨

Michaela has dedicated her career to supporting women and the LGBTQIA+ community. She earned her BA in Psychology from Creighton University and her MSW from the University of Nebraska Omaha. Her experience includes providing therapy for women in long-term residential substance use treatment in Lincoln, NE, and serving as a forensic social worker in Portland, OR, supporting justice-involved women and femmes seeking mental healthcare.

Now back home in Illinois, she strives to provide perinatal care grounded in dialectical thinking, neurodiversity, and humanistic values. 💙

When she’s not working, you’ll find her birdwatching, sewing, or gaming—with two cats and a tiny dog always close by. 🐾
