✨ This Week on the Blog
Designing what you love… vs. designing for a specific market.

This month’s portfolio review dives right into that tension.

Featuring of Monashee Illustrations and Designs (who generously volunteered her work, thank you, Darlene!), this session explores what happens when your personal style and market fit aren’t fully aligned yet.

We break down how buyers actually read your work, and why clarity around your target market can change everything, from color to motif to how your designs are used in real products.

If you’ve ever wondered why work you love isn’t landing the way you expected, this one’s worth a watch.

Choosing hope doesn’t mean everything is easy.
It means you’re still showing up, still believing, still trying.

Over the past few weeks we've been talking about the interiors industry.

Why talented designers still get passed over.
Why licensing isn't the only path.
And why breaking in can feel so confusing from the outside.

And if you've been following along, you've probably noticed something:

The issue usually isn't creativity.

It's understanding how the industry actually works — and how designers position their work within it.

Which leads to the next very reasonable question:

Okay… so now what?

That's exactly what the Kindly Woven Studio Intensive was created to answer.

Inside the program, designers gain clarity on the direction they want to pursue in the interiors industry, how to position their work within the market, and how to move forward with confidence.

Enrollment for the Studio Intensive is now open.

Cart closes April 24 and the program begins April 27.

If you've been waiting for the moment to move forward, this might be it.

“Stop waiting to be chosen” sounds simple… until you realize how much of the industry is built around exactly that.

This week, we’re unpacking why so many designers end up stuck in that loop and the quiet assumption that your work only moves forward when someone else says yes.

There’s more than one way in. But you have to be able to see it first.

If you’ve been following the “pitch and wait” path and wondering why it feels so limiting, this might open things up.

Many surface pattern designers enter the interiors industry believing there is one primary path to success: licensing.

And it's easy to understand why.

Licensing is the path that gets talked about the most. It's the one many courses focus on, and it's often presented as the ultimate goal.

But licensing is not the only way designers build careers in the interiors industry.

And in many cases, it isn't even the most profitable one.

Yet many artists spend years chasing licensing opportunities because they believe it's the only path available to them.

When those opportunities don't appear quickly, the experience can become discouraging.

The truth is that there are multiple ways surface pattern designers enter this industry and start generating revenue.

Most designers simply haven't been shown what those paths are.

That's exactly what we'll be covering in an upcoming free workshop:

✨ This Week on the Blog
A lot of pattern designers think they’re being overlooked.

But in many cases, they’re just looking at one small corner of the industry.

The truth is, licensing isn’t the whole story. Not even close.

This week, we’re unpacking why strong work can still struggle to gain traction, and the part of the interiors market most designers never actually see.

If your surface pattern designs keep getting passed over, it's easy to assume the problem is your talent.

But that isn't always the case.

The interiors market doesn't license good art. It licenses market-ready art.

And most designers were never taught the difference.

When artists don't understand how the market evaluates portfolios, they often pitch work that isn't positioned for the market yet. Buyers pass, and the rejection can start to feel personal.

But the issue may not be the quality of the work.

It may simply be that no one has explained how this part of the industry actually works.

So we created a free training to help explain why good designs still get passed over — and what buyers are actually looking for.

If this experience feels familiar, watch the training before you pitch again.
