There are 5 senses, sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing. But I think there are a few lesser known (and used) senses we could sharpen. One I love to expound on is our sense of childlike awe & wonder.
The photo below is my first hike in southern AZ, where saguaro cacti are plentiful. I had never seen a saguaro cactus in the wild in my life. I remember being incredibly giddy at the sight of them, large and silly-shaped, so plentiful and beautiful in their own way. You could see the birds nests, holes for owls and other critters, and you have to wonder how they avoid those large prickly spikes.
The desert is admittedly one of my favorite places because there is WAY more than meets the eye!
Next time you are out in nature, I invite you to engage that childlike sense of awe! Get face down on the ground, smell the earth, look for tiny creatures, cloud gaze, touch the tree bark, listen to the birds songs, the breeze moving the leaves and grasses… delight in the awe and wonder of it all!
