Hope Rising Garden Project Hope Rising Community Garden Project

Families, Inc Counseling Services, Mission Outreach of Paragould, Greene County Tech School, Marmaduke Public School, Adams Nursery, ASU, Black River Technical College, volunteers taking part in the Paragould Chamber of Commerce City Wide Clean-Up day, and Paragould Young Professionals have all partnered to construct a vegetable and flower garden located adjacent to Outreach Mission on Lake Street. Our mission is to create an environment that allows our most vulnerable populations an opportunity to flourish by utilizing positive aspects of our culture including horticulture, music, and art. It is our hope that by involving highly at risk clients in this project we can assist individuals with the needed positive reinforcement to promote positive change within themselves and our community. Utilizing a multi generational approach within the garden we plan to create an environment within the community to weave together a cohesive network of individuals that can support each other and learn to thrive. HOW WE PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH OUR MISSION

Through citywide and statewide advocacy, we plan to help people envision and support a thriving network of community, school, and neighborhood gardens accessible to highly at risk individuals of diverse ages, abilities, and cultural backgrounds. Through partnerships with other nonprofit organizations, parks and recreation departments, Master Gardeners, schools, colleges, and civic and faith-based groups, we hope to empower people through gardening, music, and art. Through local workshops, therapy groups, trainings, and networking, we hope to offer assistance to individuals and groups working to establish sustainable community-based gardens. Through garden-based education, outreach, farm to table and farm-to-school programs, we would love to help the people of our city and state build self-reliance and interdependence through community gardening. Through support of anti-hunger initiatives, we plan to encourage gardeners to give back by sharing their garden produce, skills, knowledge, and dedication with others. Through lots of love for the people in our city and state we hope to give from our hearts and encourage those around us to give from their hearts and to learn together what it truly means to live and work and love in a community.

Take a minute to read this story about Darnissa. She has been such an asset to the garden and we are so thankful for the contribution she and her family have made to help make the garden a success.

Darnissa Green, 13, wakes up every morning at 6 a.m. and loads a wheel barrow up with jugs of water.

•hand tools: forks, spades, shovels, rakes, hoes, etc
•pruning shears
•child-sized hand tools
•wheel-barrel or garden cart(s)
•garden hose, soaker hose, spray nozzles

Instead of pointing families to the nearest food bank, Mission Outreach and Families Inc. are now directing people to the backyard.
