💥Congratulations to hip-hop legend Christopher “Kid” Reid on his life-saving heart transplant!🫀

As a heart transplant recipient myself—also diagnosed with congestive heart failure—I deeply understand the journey he has begun toward healing and renewed life. I am especially grateful for the incredible medical team at Cedars‑Sinai Medical Center, which is also my transplant center, for their excellence, compassion, and dedication. The fact that a compatible heart was found for him in just nine days is nothing short of a miracle!!

Thank you for using your voice to encourage others to take their heart health seriously. That message is so urgently needed—particularly within the Black community, where nearly 60 % of Black adults age 20 and over have some form of cardiovascular disease, including heart disease, high blood pressure, and stroke.

Awareness saves lives, and your story will undoubtedly inspire many to seek care, ask questions, and choose health. Wishing you continued healing, strength, and many years ahead. ❤️

💜ELEVEN YEARS AGO TODAY, I received the call that changed my life forever!✨🙌🏾🦋🙌🏾

After six long, painful, and emotionally exhausting months in the ICU under constant supervision, my transplant coordinator, Dr. Felicia Barr, called to tell me the words I had been praying to hear: they had found a heart for me.✨

In that moment, a flood of emotions washed over me — relief, fear, awe, and deep sorrow for a family who was losing someone they loved so that I might live. Above all, I felt overwhelming gratitude that God had heard my prayers and was giving me a second chance at life.

I am forever thankful to the extraordinary medical team at Keck USC who fought tirelessly to keep me alive. I am eternally grateful to my donor — a hero whose courageous “yes” to organ donation became my miracle. Your heart has kept me alive for eleven years now. I do not know your name, but I will always honor you, remember you, and be thankful for you.

To my beloved son Tony, my dear sister Verdell, and to every single person who has walked this journey with me — thank you for your love, your prayers, your encouragement, and your unwavering support. I could not have done this without you.

My official transplant date is January 12, 2015 — but today is the day I pause to honor the precious life and generous gift of my donor. A life was given. A life was saved. And I am forever changed because of it.
