There’s a quiet strength in being a C-section mom 🤍

Not every birth story looks the same—but that doesn’t make it any less powerful. Behind that scar is courage, resilience, and a love that chose to endure whatever it took to bring life safely into the world.

A C-section isn’t “the easy way out.” It’s a different kind of brave. It’s surrendering to what your body and your baby need in the moment. It’s healing while still showing up. It’s holding your newborn while your own body is asking for rest.
Your story matters. Your strength is real. Your body did something incredible.

To every C-section mama: your scar is not something to hide—it’s something to honor. ✨

If you need support, Empowered Wellness is here for you!

C-section recovery is more than skin deep 💛

Scar care isn’t just what you do with your hands—it’s also how you nourish your body. Supporting collagen production with good nutrition (think protein, vitamin C, and hydration) helps your tissue heal from the inside out.

✨ Gentle, consistent scar massage
✨ Nourish with collagen-supporting foods
✨ Stay hydrated + be patient with your body

Healing takes time—and c-sections require specialized support- you deserve a full recovery!

A C-section is NOT the “easy way out.”

It’s major abdominal surgery.

To bring a baby into the world, your body goes through layer after layer — skin, fat, fascia, muscle, peritoneum, uterus… and finally the amniotic sac.

That’s a lot. Physically. Emotionally. Mentally.

Recovery isn’t just about “bouncing back” — it’s about healing from a deeply significant surgical experience while caring for a newborn.

If you’ve had a C-section:
✨ Your birth is valid
✨ Your strength is real
✨ Your recovery deserves support

Let’s normalize honoring C-section healing — not minimizing it. 💛

Have you ever used red light on your Csection scar??

Red light therapy can be a helpful adjunct for C-section scar healing.

It works by using specific wavelengths of light to pe*****te the skin and stimulate cellular activity—especially in the mitochondria (the “energy centers” of your cells). This can support tissue repair and reduce inflammation.

For C-section scars, that may mean:
• Improved circulation to the area
• Softer, more mobile scar tissue
• Reduced tightness and discomfort
• Support for collagen remodeling (helping the scar heal more functionally, not just cosmetically)

That said—red light therapy works best alongside hands-on care with a pelvic floor therapist.

Scar mobility, core reconnection, and pelvic floor function still need to be addressed through targeted therapy. Think of red light as a supportive tool, not the whole solution.

👉 Bottom line: It can enhance healing, and pairing it with pelvic floor physical therapy is where you’ll see the biggest impact.

Dry needling can be a powerful tool for improving C-section scar mobility and comfort.

Very fine needles are used to target tight or restricted areas in the scar and surrounding tissue.

This helps:
• Release tension and “stuck” layers of tissue
• Improve blood flow to the area
• Decrease pain or sensitivity
• Restore better movement through the abdomen

Because C-section scars can create deeper restrictions (not just at the surface), dry needling can reach areas that hands-on work alone sometimes can’t.

👉 The result: better core connection, less pulling or discomfort, and improved overall function.
It’s typically used as part of a bigger plan that also includes scar work, movement, and pelvic floor therapy for the best results.

April is C-section Awareness Month 🩷

While C-sections are common (~30% of births), recovery doesn’t end after birth. Your body has gone through major surgery—and it deserves proper healing.

Pelvic floor physical therapy can help restore strength, reduce pain, improve core function, and support your overall recovery journey. You don’t have to “just deal with it.”

**Tag a friend who has had a C-section so they can see these tips!!

Prioritize your healing. You’re worth it. ✨

What actually happens during a C-section??

A C-section isn’t just “having a baby another way”—it’s major abdominal surgery.

During the procedure, multiple layers are carefully moved through to reach your baby:
• Skin
• Fat
• Fascia (the strong connective tissue that supports your core)
• Abdominal muscles (usually separated, not cut)
• Uterus

That fascia layer is a big deal. It’s part of the system that helps your core and pelvic floor work together. When it’s cut and then heals, it doesn’t always return to its original mobility.

➡️ This is where scar tissue comes in.
As your body heals, it creates scar tissue to close and protect the area. But that scar can become tight, restricted, or “stuck” to surrounding layers.
And those restrictions can lead to:
• That “shelf” or overhang at the incision
• Numbness or pulling sensations
• Core weakness or difficulty engaging
• Pelvic floor dysfunction (leaking, pressure, pain)
• Feeling disconnected from your body

Your core and pelvic floor are meant to function as a team. When the scar limits movement and communication between those layers, everything has to compensate.

✨ The good news: this is treatable.
Seeing a pelvic floor therapist after a C-section isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessary part of recovery.
We work on:
• Restoring mobility to the scar and surrounding tissue
• Reconnecting your core and breath
• Supporting your pelvic floor
• Helping you feel strong and confident in your body again

And no—it’s never “too late” to start.

If you’ve had a C-section (whether it was 6 weeks ago or 16 years ago), your body deserves this kind of care.

💬 Tell me—did anyone talk to you about scar care after your C-section?

The Empowered Story

My name is Stephanie Perez and I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Working with patients over the past eight years I have discovered that while there are physical therapy services available, sometimes it is hard to find the time to make it to appointments due to babies, naps, busy schedules, or location. Providing physical therapy on a virtual platform allows for greater access to women's health services so that everyone can get the help and healing that they need.
