CP and Tongue-Tie Case Series Patient #1- listen to Mom’s story. Elizabeth has been in therapy her whole life, and they have been hitting walls in therapy. After releasing her oral restrictions, she was then able to make massive gains in therapy () as detailed in our case series published in Special Care Dentistry (link to Full Text in bio). She saw better breathing immediately (not a placebo effect), less constipation immediately (and was sustained even 8 months later), increased vocalization and has said “dada” a few times, and more. This is one of four cases we reported in the series. With kids who have multiple medical conditions, tongue-tie is often overlooked. Kids hitting a plateau in therapy should be evaluated properly for tongue-tie by a knowledgeable provider. To see improvements, a complete history, thorough evaluation, a full release of restricted tissues, proper wound care to prevent readhesion, and follow up to ensure proper healing with a team approach is needed. With these steps in place, we often (but not always) see improvements in the clinic. Minimal risk, but potentially high reward. This case series should prompt others to pursue further research in this area. But if the procedure is not done properly (a halfway clip), no stretches, no team approach, and no follow up, then minimal improvements should be expected. To learn more visit TongueTie.com. 💚

Tongue-Tied Family! Most of the time it’s Dad’s fault- but in this family, Great-grandma, Grandma, Mom, and the Son all had a restricted tongue and symptoms ranging from headaches and sleep issues to speech, eating, and breathing issues. If someone in your family has a tongue-tie have a high degree of suspicion for a tongue restriction- especially if there are symptoms (speech, eating, or sleeping concerns). One of the last pictures of both whale sharks at the Georgia Aquarium. We went yesterday afternoon, and Molly was so excited to see the whale sharks! Sadly, we just learned that Taroko, was euthanized last night as he has been sick for some time and was not getting better. So this is one of the last photos taken of both the whale sharks at the Georgia Aquarium.
