For me, Colon Cancer Awareness Month is deeply personal.
My only brother and amazing friend, Michael Tenebruso, was a beloved son, father, brother, friend, principal and coach who was diagnosed with late-stage colon cancer in his 40s.
Despite multiple surgeries, chemotherapies, and radiation, he passed away at age 50—the very age when his first colonoscopy would have been recommended under the old screening guidelines.
Throughout his battle, Mike never stopped showing up with strength, courage, and kindness—qualities that inspired our family mantra: "Be Like Mike." Today, I carry that message forward by urging you to take care of your health.
In 2021, three years after Mike died, colon cancer screening recommendations were revised and now include an initial screening colonoscopy at age 45. A colonoscopy may not be glamourous, but it is YOUR opportunity for early cancer detection and better survival.
Unfortunately, Mike didn’t have this opportunity—but you do. In honor of Mike and Colon Cancer Awareness Month, schedule your colonoscopy today.
💙 March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month. Wear blue, spread the word, and most importantly—get screened.
