Today is the perfect day for Dandelion Harvesting!

Did you know every part of the Dandelion can be used medicinally?💛

Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale)

I love Dandelions.... they bring up so many fun memories from my childhood when summers seemed to last forever and running through the neighborhood & park reserve trying to squeeze every last second of daylight before sunset when it was time to go home for the night.

Dandelion is another remedy that I recommend often. Everyone knows this plant and most consider it a w**d. This common 'w**d' has had a bad reputation since the time perfect carpet green lawns became a thing. A lot of people try to kill them with chemicals that harm our bodies, the earth, and our water supply.....the irony is that Dandelion is a detoxifier and would help cleanse people from the very chemicals that people kill them with. If they are being pests where you don't want them, spray them with vinegar or dish soap.
Dandelion grows wild in most of the world and is cultivated as an herb. The leaves, flower and the root are used for medicine. Een the stem has medicinal uses. Dandelion also makes a wonderful wine!! In the early summer before the plant blooms, leaves are harvested to make medicinal teas and tinctures. The roots are dug in the fall, when they have the greatest concentration of the complex carbohydrate inulin, for the use of tablets and tinctures.

Dandelion leaves are a powerful diuretic and it is the best natural source of potassium. Young leaves are recommended and can be eaten fresh. Dandelion is considered a bitter, which other countries/cultures use bitters to treat aliments. Bitters of all types activate a reflex that increases the secretion of digestive juices by the lining of the stomach. The roots act as a blood purifier that helps both the kidneys and the liver to remove toxins and poisons from the blood. The roots have been used for centuries to treat jaundice. Dandelion also acts as a mild laxative and improves digestion. The cholagogue action decongests the gallbladder by increasing bile flow, the choleretic action promotes bile production. It is anti-rheumatic, as it stimulates cell metabolism in the body, assisting the body to dump metabolic waste into the blood to be cleansed by the liver.

Conditions Dandelions Benefit:

Eczema and other skin conditions, Anemia, Bladder infections, PMS, Edema, Constipation, hemorrhoids, indigestion, IBS, Liver problems and gallbladder issues including gallstones, Osteoporosis, Obesity, joint disorders, and blood cholesterol.

**If you are taking certain antibiotics or medications, as with all herbs you need to discuss this with your health care provider before use, Dandelions clean the blood so well that it can keep medications from working as they are intended. If you have gallstone or biliary obstruction you need to discuss with your health care provider prior to use.**
