So yes it has been awhile since we have posted but we have been busy! Back in May you may have noticed a bunch of very harried admin staff muttering about policies, audits and an acronym C-A-R-F. Well, we had our CARF survey this past May and we just received word that we passed! CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) Accreditation is official recognition that our organization is guided by internationally recognized service standards and best practices.

The reason we went for a CARF Accreditation is because under the new Michigan Auto Law, “a person that provides post-acute brain and spinal rehabilitation care” Is required to have a CARF or Joint Commission Accreditation. (MCL 500.3157(12))

We would like to thank our amazing Administrative Staff and our fearless leader, Amy, for guiding us through this intense process that allows us to continue to serve our clients and community.

We are in the trial phase of experimenting with finding the right recipe for tasty treats for our and your furry friends. So far our dogs have not declined any opportunities to sample as much as possible. We thought you would enjoy the peek of our labor of love at WORK.

Vocational Rehabilitation for Northern Michigan

Monarch Workforce was started out of a passion to see others continue to succeed and have a sense of purpose. This is a therapeutic supported employment program like none-other in Northern Michigan for persons who have sustained a traumatic brain injury. (I say traumatic brain injury, because no brain injury is small.)

At Monarch Workforce persons who have a brain injury (team member) are employed to work part or full-time. They work under occupational therapists, employment specialists, and job coaches who oversee their work for accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency. The team members are responsible for planning their work schedules, arriving on time, bringing lunch, socializing, performing work as directed, cleaning up, assisting others, problem solving work activities, planning how to get the job done timely and efficiently, checking their work and/or others’ work, reporting their tasks, accuracy, and many other responsibilities. All the work is being accomplished with occupational, speech and physical therapy techniques being interwoven into the work process.

This is a program for both active therapy clients and those that are post therapy. The program provides persons with a brain injury a safe and supported employment opportunity to enhance and expand upon their skills: cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and instrumental activities of daily living (time management, money management, meal prep, etc.).
