Mission Monday, January 26, 2026

As January comes to a close, how many of our well-meant New Year’s resolutions have fallen short in just a few short weeks? The plethora of “spinning plates” we wear ourselves out trying to manage can be overwhelming. We talk about ‘one day at a time’. Perhaps it’s one of our resolutions. It’s really one step at a time ~ a step with conviction ~ a step in faith. Plates will come and go. They will spin and spin, again. If one falls, it’s not necessarily the end of the world. It may be an opportunity to step back ~ regroup ~ steady ourselves to resume the ordered chaos life can be.

This picture is called “A Heart of Many Colors.” Not being there when this group assembled ~ how cooperative the students were is unknown. Young children tend to be more accepting and open to the differences in others. While youth can be complicated, there is often an innocence there that offers a welcoming spirit. The absence of that spirit is learned behavior and it stifles growth. Today, we remember the life of a man who lived and breathed peace and unity. His dream was that one day a “heart of many colors” would grow and empower society to joint together as brothers and sisters in Christ. In simplicity and humility, let us share the best of who we are and beckon it forth from others.

And so, the New Year is here! We are back into the swing of things! Each new day is a step into the unknown with all of its mystery~ excitement ~ promise. The New Year will, in part, will be what we make it. Of course, there will be those things that are out of our hands but we always have control of how we react and/or respond to what comes our way. The lessons learned this past year will surely enlighten us on how to maneuver the path of life in the coming months. May the new steps on the journey be filled with wonder and blessing!

Mission Monday, January 5, 2026

The Three Kings are not only important characters in the Christmas story but they are also relevant for us, today. They were searching ~ hearts and minds open to the “promise” they sought. They set out with no map but a star shining brightly in the night sky. We are called to search. To search with open hearts and minds seeking our promise of healing and wholeness. The Magi found their treasure in a simple, humble place. Our journey begs us to give our all ~ simply and humbly ~ to find who we are truly meant to be.

Mission Monday, December 29, 2025

Happy New Year 2026! A new year ~ a new opportunity for making a difference in the lives of others. You don’t have to have a high-profile job to be an agent of change ~ a beacon of hope. You don’t have to have a fancy title to be a force for good ~ a sacred space for someone in need. You don’t have to have a wall full of credentials to lead those who struggle to better things ~ to be an instrument of peace. You DO have to have a desire to be the difference that is needed in our world. That difference starts this very moment. That tiniest of sparks can and will spread to become a brilliant light shining brightly in the hearts and lives of all we love. May 2026 be filled with amazing sparks ~ sparks of joy, hope and love. Peace to ALL

Mission Monday, December 22, 2025

These are the last few days of Advent ~ that period of time when we spiritually prepare for the celebration of Christmas. How long did generations wait for the coming of the Messiah ~ the Long Awaited One? The last steps on that journey were taken by Mary. Her “yes” changed the course of salvation history for all time. For her, all that she had lived and prayed for came to life in Jesus whom she offered to the world. That same “life” dwells in each of us. Some may call it by a different name but the light ~ love ~ blessing we hold deep within does make us who we are and how we are with others.

Mission Monday, December 15, 2025

We were never promised a perfect life ~ no one said the journey would be easy. We have choices when life gets challenging. Some crumble easily and throw in the towel without putting up a fight. Some wallow in self-pity and never move forward. And then there are those who fight until there is no fight left in them ~ taking on the pain and anguish life throws at them. We don’t just ‘get over’ life’s hurts ~ we can, however, ‘grow through’ them and use them to make a better life for ourselves. With God’s grace and support from those who love us, we can find joy and spread that joy to others.

Mission Monday, December 8, 2025

There is a lot of anger throughout the world ~ anger over a variety of things. In many instances, it is feasible to sit down and talk about the issue at hand. Sadly, not every circumstance affords us that opportunity. Scripture challenges us to overcome anger with love and compassion. For this to be successful, it requires mutual respect and effort. Someone has to take the first step ~ will it be you?
