Common advice to “use problems as growth opportunities” overlooks that depression is a clinical illness. Not everyone has the immediate capacity or skills to open up or analyze their situation; this takes time. Faith can help, but it is not a substitute for professional, evidence-based care. If you are depressed, minimize contact with people who drain, confront, or criticize you, and seek qualified support. Aim for a realistic, hopeful outlook and maintain gentle routines, but a positive attitude alone will not resolve depression. It’s okay not to be okay, and it’s okay to ask for help. Loved ones can support you, but they are not always experts, and depression cannot be hidden or willed away.
Depression is an illness that may require time and professional care; supportive routines can help, but positivity or faith alone aren’t enough, and it’s okay to avoid unsupportive people and ask for help.
