In honor of National Cancer Survivors’ Day (June 1), we lift up those whose lives have been affected by cancer.

One of our own therapists, Raelea Webster, knows this struggle all too well and specializes in supporting those affected by cancer. Today we recognize the strength it takes her and others in their journeys.

Recently in this newest season of life, I’ve found myself wanting to bridge the gap where mental health often falls short. Motherhood is such a universal experience, yet it can feel so isolating. It’s so important to have practitioners who can meet the needs of those struggling, and lately it’s been my passion to fill that gap through therapy and lactation/feeding support.

This isn’t a rebrand, it’s a branch out. In an effort to honor and respect those who don’t want content on motherhood, I’ve created a separate account that will focus on the challenges of motherhood and matrascence. If interested, you can follow along

Ever Upward isn’t going anywhere, and neither is my passion that fueled me to start it! Content here will focus on general mental health and our other therapist niches. Anything motherhood related will be filtered through my new page.

This one is for the parents who are googling late at night, doubting their ability to support their baby, or who are just all out exhausted. Just a reminder-baby sleep is not linear. You are doing nothing wrong if sleep doesn’t seem to be going as smoothly as you’d like. Keep nurturing-both them and you!

THEY SAY/I HEAR: New Parent Edition

Having a baby means-whether you’ve asked for it or not-you’ll likely be getting some opinions from others. And sometimes these opinions and suggestions don’t line up with our own values. Sometimes we need to filter these comments through your own lens. So when they say “she’s so spoiled”, you can take that as a compliment.

This holiday season, remember that the images you see on social media are just snapshots of the highlights. If you’re struggling to feel like you need to get your space together before you can enjoy the company of your friends and family, challenge yourself to consider otherwise. No one will remember the dust bunnies in the corner, the pile on the steps, or the dishes in the sink. They WILL remember decorating cookies together, laughing over a game of cards, and partaking in traditions. If you choose to clean, do it for the sake of your well being, not at the expense of making connections and memories.

You can be grateful without it canceling out the other challenges and struggles that may be going on in your life. Pausing to be grateful does not negate the things in life we wish could be different. One does not cancel the other out. Today, give space to both.
